• Best Hardware to emulate?

From deepthaw@314:314/50 to All on Wed Aug 16 19:12:00 2017
I have a spare Pi I'd like to press into service as an Amibian device. What model of Amiga is going to be the best for me to emulate? I guess I'm looking for the best hardware that runs full speed and is compatible with the most software.

That depends on what you want to do with the emulated Amiga?
For old games and demos I think A500 would be the most compatible choice. For new games and demos that might require AGA chipset, you will need to choose an A1200.

Later games and demos might also run on the big box Amigas, i.e. A3000/A4000, but software from the early Amiga days will have issues with the different CPUs
    and might give strange results.

Unfortunatly you are going to be limited to emulating at most an A4000/040
with Workbench 3.1 as UAE4ARM does not support uaescsi.device yet for
mounting cd images to install Amiga OS 3.9.. I tried installing it on WinUAE and transferring the HDF but it sits at requestor at bootup saying unable to load uaescsi.device ..

It's coming along.. UAE4ARM is a relatively new project

There is no UAE in the Raspbian package repo :( Does anyone have a tutorial on how to build it from source?

Sadly no.. you'll have to check out the site for UAE4ARM and grab the sources and I'm sure you can find some information on the git site on how to build it

You cannot run AmigaOS 3.9 on UAE4ARM, it's not as current as WinUAE you get
a boot requestor unable to load uaescsi.device
