  • Fall camping

    Hi everyone,

    Forgot to write this in my last offline mail packet...

    Do any of you like to go camping in the fall? I love it though I am not allowed to go alone anymore and must remain within cell phone coverage due to my health issues. Thankfully, the cell phone coverage is pretty good in my area even with all the mountains. The hard part is finding someone to go with me!

    I usually stay at a campground these days; no more primitive camping for me.

    I'd like to try my hand at fishing in the fall one of these days also.

    I watch a lot of camping videos on YT of younger, cute South Korean girls camping (I know, it's a niche hobby). One of them was using a Sterno stove and it reminded me of how much I love camping...

    I just have too much time on my hands.

    We used to tent camp... a LOT! Would go with friends and have many, many
    tents in a circle and a big fire in the middle. The people more skilled
    at cooking would do that - I would bring a guitar and entertain, etc.

    Fun times!

    John, KD7AAT, camps quite often at Lake Cochuma, California (not
    sure if that's spelled right or not), and there's an RV Radio Net
    for those who have those items, and stay at RV Parks on vacation.

    I'd also worry about the insects, among other things. Plus, they
    are telling folks if they're campsites are near rivers and lakes, to
    be wary of weather conditions, especially if thunderstorms are
    forecast upstream.

    I just have too much time on my hands.

    Time is a nasty 4 letter word, like work, and snow.

    Guess I need to wash my mouth out now. <G>

    The insects don't bother me too much. As for tghe weather, that's the first thing I check. That's why I like going in the fall: less severe weather (at least up here). I don't normally camp near water unless it's along one of the many lakes that the TVA created. The campgrounds ar usually a lot higher than the water.

    I was never much of a camper.

    When I was updating the Ham Radio Humor file (off of the hyperlink
    on my QRZ bio), I came across one where the guy is saying "My SWR is
    all over the place. I better go outside, and see what's going on".

    The truth is, there's one bear climbing the tower, and another
    waiting for him...never mind that propagation is a bear <G>.

    Another one has the XYL converting her OM's antenna into a
    clothesline for her laundry. I guess propagation has washed out
    the bands. <G>

    It's good to see you in Micronet again.

    It's good to be back full time with BBSing, but after all the
    crap in my life a year ago, I just had to have a break. At least
    I didn't take a break from amateur radio.
