• Fightonet and the "swedish meatball"

From Joacim Melin@21:2/130 to All on Fri Oct 31 11:19:17 2025
There was some discussion earlier about the angriest man in Sweden and his behaviour and I had something to share but it of course never left my BBS because of incorrect settings in Binkd.

For some reason, this guy decided he didn't like me. He was friendly at first but then he started to post angry messages to me so I made it clear I would simply leave Fidonet. This was after I designed a new website for Fidonet and was simply asking for feedback.

Anyway, one day he posted private information about my then wife - her name, where she worked and so on - in a public forum. I of course didn't take this well so I sent him netmail asking wtf he was doing and he just replied "her information is safe with me, for now...".

The man is not only bat shit crazy, he is also dangerous.

It's because of him, and others like him, that Fidonet never gets another chance. Every new user is met with endless arguments and fighting from him and others over the smallest of details and larger issues like who is the moderator over echo X or Y, the election of said moderator was invalid, etc. Rince, repeat.

It's sad that they don't realize they are fighting over a castle of sand which is disappearing more and more every day.

FSXNet is *NOT* the place for this crap. Take it some other place.

FSXNet is *NOT* the place for this crap. Take it some other place.

Why not? I sort of see it as saying there's a lot of drama on FidoNet, which is why we enjoy talking on FSXNet (which doesn't really have much drama).

Read that out loud. There is a reason for the NO POLITICS rule in FSXNet, and this is also an example of that.

(which doesn't really have much drama).

This. We don't need or want that in here. This is NOT the place for pissing contests.

Not wanting to dredge up drama about one network on another network
isn't sad. In fact, if memory serves, Avon has wanted to avoid such a
    thing in the past.

The lack of Fido politics is what appeals to many people here.

    Howdy,

FSXNet is *NOT* the place for this crap. Take it some other place.

Why not? I sort of see it as saying there's a lot of drama on FidoNet, which is why we enjoy talking on FSXNet (which doesn't really have much drama).

I'm with vorlon on this one.

One of the things that appeals here is the non fighting that starts because two or more people have different views and cant help them selves to respect that somebody might have a different view that they dont accept.

The experience is that before long it turns in to a childish use of naming calling, verbal garbage that everybody else is presented with.

I think we all know that fight-o-net exists, we probably all have our opinions on who the bad ones - but lets leave that crap there. No reason to talk about it here, for any reason.

I don't know, I think most people could agree that doxxing someone's wife
then threatening them is something to frown upon. If there are people
here who think that sort of thing is ok and that I should respect their different view on that then, I guess fsxnet is no better than anywhere
    else.

I saw the original post as being some what angry, but more of a PSA about
why they avoid fidonet (and probably a continuation of an earlier thread
about other networks - they mentioned their original message didn't send)

I think Vorlon overreacted, I don't know why, but his response seemed to
be very disproportionate to the original post.

Some things you can have opinions on, thats great. Pinapple on Pizza for example. Making threats to peoples family not so much - and I wouldn't
    lump that in with politics.

I think we all know that fight-o-net exists, we probably all have our opinions on who the bad ones - but lets leave that crap there. No
reason to talk about it here, for any reason.

Many people come to fsxnet before attempting to sign up to fidonet.
Fidonet with their joining process can seem daunting to a new person
(though maybe that's changed) If I didn't already know, I would now know
    not to bother.

    spot on!

Fido stuff doesn't belong in this network.

I don't blame them for that. What they need to realize is that this network is not the place for
    those issues.

Yes fido still has policy4 hanging over it's head like a dead weight, but the main thing from that
is to not be annoying to the other operators and expect things done in a split second.
