I just saw the Sarah Jane adventure, Death Of The Doctor, and found
myslf
curious about the roll call of companions who were mentioned at the
end. I can understand why companions like Adric, Turlough, and
Bernice weren't mentioned-- even Peri-- but when SJ said there was a
Dorothy something running a charity it took me a moment to know that
she meant Ace. That was strange enough, but since she also mentioned
the Chestertons still being alive, I wondered what about the only
other human companion of the Doctor that didn't get mentioned, Dodo--
Dorothea Chaplet. She was around with both Ben & Polly, who also were
mentioned, but how is it Dodo gets no mention?

Well, according to some spin-off novels, her fate was not the best.
That might be the reason why she's not mentioned by Sarah Jane. Or
it's entirely possible that our intrepid journalist didn't learn about
her.
Maybe it was just the way I saw it, but least part of the point of the
Where Are They Now? stuff seemed to be to undo the horrible fates of companions in the spin-offs, most obviously with the statment that Liz
(who died in the NAs while on a UNIT mission to the Moon in 2003) can't
make it to the funeral because she's on UNIT's Moonbase. With this interpretation in mind, the failure to mention Dodo is even odder.

They're caused by those who hate.

Well, there's a bigger problem when you try to reconcile th books and
the show: yes, Liz is on the moon in Eternity Weeps, but in that book
besides Liz dying, about a quarter of the planet gets wiped out either
by the alien disease or by the Doctor's cure for Agent Yellow. Such a
big event and it never gets mentioned, even in passing, in any of the
shows? So if that didn't happen, maybe Dodo didn't get the chop in Who
Killed Kennedy... But it's strange to mention Ben and Polly and yet
completely forget Dodo who would be in her 60s or so by the time of
this episode.
