    Areas affected...Southeast SD...southern/central MN...northwest
    WI...extreme northwest IA

    Concerning...Heavy snow=20

    Valid 230545Z - 231115Z

SUMMARY...Snow rates may occasionally increase to 1+ inches per hour
    overnight, with localized blizzard conditions.

DISCUSSION...A long-duration snow event is ongoing across parts of
the northern Plains and upper MS Valley late this evening, with
moderate to locally heavy snow occasionally being observed from
eastern SD into southern MN, to the north of a surface low over
southern IA. Some uptick in snow rates is possible overnight, as
large-scale ascent increases in advance of a negatively tilted
mid/upper-level shortwave trough currently moving into central NE.=20

A baroclinic zone has persisted near the MN/SD border this evening,
with temperatures generally in the 0-10 F range across southeast SD,
and in the 10-20 F range across southern MN. Snow rates may approach
1 inch per hour at times within the colder/drier regime across
eastern SD, where gusty winds will support localized blizzard
conditions through the night. Somewhat greater potential for 1 inch
per hour snow rates may develop overnight across southern/central MN
into western WI, where NAM/RAP forecast soundings indicate some
deepening of the dendritic growth zone with time, and also some
potential for modest convective enhancement in association with
steep midlevel lapse rates attendant to the approaching shortwave
    trough.
