I am having a problem ruinng the ALT-M fuctions from the Area Menu Screen.
None of them, or at least the two that I've used the most work. I do not remember when they stopped working but it has been awhile and I don't know if the problem is related to TERMINATE or to the computer itself.
First of all this basically is a brand new comptuer, the MOBO is new but still using the old HD's and box. But the heart of the computer is new. Also the Operating System Windows XP was reinstalled from the start.
When I try to PACK messages I get an error message that says
Swappingt 300 KB to XMS
Bad command or file name
and the pack never happens.
The other utility that does not work is PURGE. I have it set for 90 days
50 messages MAX and when I run it, nothing happens. No mesages get purged.
Does anyone know why this would happen?
Any leads as to "what changed would be helpful. Possibly I have to change
or add something to either the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS. I know that in
"old dos" you needed a command to load HIGHMEM.SYS or something like that.
Not sure if that had anything to do with XMS Memory, I never really knew the ins and out of memory usuage, but I though that all went away with the introduction of Window and later XP.
A little "edumcation" please.
Thanks!
