    Charles,

I think in all my years of computing, I've been BLESSED! I've only lost 2 CS>computers from a power surge or lightening! I"m surprised it's not alot CS>more.. lol

Well, the computer hasn't been hit by lightning, although I'm a 2 time lightning strike survivor. Indirect strikes at 3 and 16 resulted in both
a severe shock, and nervous system damage. But, I carry no electrical
charge, and can be handled safely. <G>

See, it's the BBS name.. it attracts ligthening! *grin*

I was going to originally call it "The Wall Cloud BBS". A wall cloud,
is the lowered portion of a cloud at the southwest corner of a severe thunderstorm, in a rain free area. This is where a tornado is most
likely to develop. One of my first users (her son designed the lightning
ANSI I have at logon) suggested "The Thunderbolt BBS" for a name. I
liked it so much, that it "stuck".

Wow! What are the odds! I know you gotta be playing the lottory more often now! :) You are SUPER lucky it wasn't fatal, or did more physical harm.
I've read about people getting hit and losing limbs... fingers, arms..

I'm sure in your case, it gets ALOT worse with age..

I wish I had some of the ANSI from my BBS's back in the day, I had some
really good stuff me and some of my users nmade. I just don't have the same patience I had back then to really get back into it, although it's a little easier to make some good stuff now

    Regards

Or losing their lives. And, lightning is known as "the under-rated
killer". Lightning can strike from 20 to 200 miles from the parent thunderstorm. I heard of one case, where a child was walking along
railroad tracks (which is trespassing anyway), and lightning hit the
rail several miles away. The current traveled down the rail to the
    child, killing him instantly.

It does, unfortunately. I'm down with a bad head and chest cold right
now, so I'm doing the very minimum with the BBS and the computer. I
slept much of today. I hope I can sleep tonight...but right now, I have
    very little energy.

I still have a lot of the ANSI and RIP artpacks from Outworld Arts in
my ANSI files area. However, with numerous bots and hack attempts via
FTP and SSH, I limited FTP downloads to only the "BBS System Files Area"
(file board 1, file area 1)...and removed SSH completely. To get the
other files, one has to be a verified user in good standing.

I'm gonna have to connect and download them, I love their work, it's
something, if I could draw, I would try to make! *LOL*

If you want to apply beforehand, send netmail to FIDONet 1:19/33, with
your name, desired alias, city and state (no address needed) and desired password (max 8 characters). Note that you heard about it from the
FIDONet Survivors echo, and I'll get you pre-registered, so you don't
have to go through the New User Logon process.

As for the graphics, I do my ANSI's by hand...mainly for the
bulletins, and some of the holiday emphasis screens. The holiday screens
    are from 3 sources:

    1) A collection of monthly themes, originally done and copyrighted by
Bob Snyder in 1987...but he wanted Sysops to post these on their BBS's.

    2) The HOLIDAY program with Virtual Advanced BBS Software.

    3) Some I made on my own.

For the latter, I open the trusty archaic MS-DOS Editor <G>, then
create the graphic with text, then high ascii characters. I have a
utility from the former DreamNet doors, done by Andy Stewart, that will
list all ALT-### keys, with the high low ascii character designations.
Once I have that set the way I want it, then I add the ANSI color codes
with an escape code (ctrl-P and the left bracket)...then #;##m --
where 0 or 1 is the first digit, 3 the second digit, and 0 through 7 the
    third digit. This gives:

    0;30 - black (invisible)
    1;30 - dark grey
    0;31 - red
    1;31 - pinkish red
    0;32 - green
    1;32 - bright green
    0;33 - brown
    1;33 - yellow
    0;34 - blue
    1;34 - bright blue
    0;35 - purple
    1;35 - magenta
    0;36 - cyan
    1;36 - bright cyan
    0;37 - white
    1;37 - bright white

This is how I get the ANSI for The Local Weather Brief, listing the advisories for Arkansas.

One I'm particularly pleased with is an American Flag, partially at
half staff, with a poem "In Loving Memory"...mainly for Memorial Day,
    and 9/11.

I then set up events in the Windows 7 Task Scheduler, to copy these to
the appropriate place on certain days of the year.

    Charles,

I'll do that for sure! Thanks for the invite/info....

Just do it at your convenience. With my going to a nursing home in
Lonoke (40 miles east of Little Rock) a couple of times a week to visit
my elderly Mom, some days, the BBS work has to wait.

I wanna get back into doing my own ANSI stuff. If I had a better editor I CS>would. I'm surprised there aren't many out there...

Sadly, most all of them have passed away.
