• HIP SURGERY

From Daryl Stout@1:19/33 to ALL on Thu Aug 23 09:11:00 2018
Unfortunately, I have impending surgery on my left hip. I've heard
that it's less difficult afterwards than knee surgery...but I've also
heard that like with all surgeries, there's a chance of failure...but
the worst thing is the downtime...no driving or heavy lifting for 3
weeks to 6 months...and for me, that's way too long.

The thing is, while I am using a walker wherever I go now, I have to
have it eventually, or my hip is likely to fail. But, being caregiver
for my elderly Mom, she has no one to fall back on if I go down (no pun intended), and I have no one to take care of me.

If anyone in here has had experience with hip surgery, or knows of
those who have, your comments would be appreciated. I saw my PCP
yesterday, and will see my orthopedic doctor on Monday. I would like to
delay it until November, if possible, though.

I'm in the hosptal now, I had my 4th hip surgery in 26 years on the 19th. Had my left hip done June 20th. I had my first hip done, left in '91 when I was
18, and my right in ;90.

It's best to do it before it gets cold out, not only because it will be
easier to get around, the warmth keeps your muscles loose, and it's a lil tougher for rehab. Plus the fact that I had both done so close to each other, medicine has come a LONG ways since '90. Plus I have a MUC better range of motion.

I'd say do it as soon as you can!

    Charles,

First, sorry for the delay in replying. Over the last month, I've had
to move back to my Mom's place, and deal with the finances in getting
her placed in a nursing home. I had difficulty in getting the BBS back
up with cable modem and router issues. The technician is coming by in
the morning to look at things. If wx1der.dyndns.org doesn't work, tbolt.synchro.net does (I logon with SyncTerm).

Well, with being back at my Mom's home now, I'd still not be able to
drive for a month...but I've still go to unpack a bunch of stuff from
the move from my apartment back to my Mom's place. But, if we do get a
bad winter, I will be able to be at home for several days. At least I
have a Post Office Box that doesn't need to be checked daily, and at my
Mom's place now, I don't have to worry about driving over here to check
the mail. Of course, if we get a bad winter (ice storms, etc.), the mail
    isn't going to run, anyway.

Well, at least my stuff is working. Had to do a roundabout way to work around the cable modem in bridge mode, and with my router, to get all
the items on the network to get internet. But, unsettled weather will
have me down again from Halloween into the weekend. If I didn't have to worry about lightning, I'd leave things up. I just hope the lightning activity at my Mom's place is LESS than what is was at my now former apartment.

I think in all my years of computing, I've been BLESSED! I've only lost 2 computers from a power surge or lightening! I"m surprised it's not alot
    more.. lol

Rough. The light at the end of the tunnel, which has looked the
last few weeks more like an oncoming train about to run me over, seems
to not be so ominous now. I think all the financial deals are in to take care of my Mom's nursing home care...I go for a health care meeting
there on Thursday. I hope I never have to go through this again.

Sounds like you could use a stiff drink brother... Do you have any kids? Do you have any siblings?? My prayers are with you AND your mother, you 2 need
    em!

As per the last message, my concerns now will be weather and power for everything. Even if I can get a generator, if the internet is out at Xfinity, it won't matter whether I have power for the BBS or not.

Here in Ohio, we had 'kinda' bad rain/thunderstorms, lost power while I was sleep, didn't even know it, and I wouldn't hvae known if it wasn't for the
fact that the kitchen clocks don't autoset! lol!

The only BBS I've logged on to his my own, in Little Rock, Arkansas. I've been so busy with financial matters for my Mom's nursing home care during the day, and ham radio traffic nets in the evenings, that I've
    done very little BBS work.

I've been KINDA busy, so I've been modding my BBS little by little.. I think it's coming along nicely! Still have alot that I wanna do... but I'll get it!

    Charles,

I've been KINDA busy, so I've been modding my BBS little by little.. I think CS>it's coming along nicely! Still have alot that I wanna do... but I'll get it

My HTML knowledge is very basic. I can write a batchfile for the BBS,
but my programming ENDS at setting the clock on the microwave oven. If I
forget how to do that, I guess I'll starve to death. :P

I also had originally had the BBS under GT Power for dial-up from 1992
to 2005...then went to Synchronet, then to Virtual Advanced, but am back
    to Synchronet.

I was going to do VADV-PHP for the website, but when the dynamic IP
software quit working, I didn't need the service or the mail forwarding
deal for wx1der.dyndns.org anymore, so I cancelled that...since tbolt.synchro.net will take care of the same thing for free. Zapping
both of those saves $300 a year, and I got a $70 refund.

Right now, I need all the money I can get...but it's like the cartoon
of the elderly couple talking to their financial advisor. He tells them
that "it boils down to who has the stick-up note, and who's driving the
    getaway car". <G>

    Hehe!!

My HTML'ing isn't great, I can throw together some things that looks better than it functions! I can do some cool stuff when I feel motivated to di it,
but that's becoming hard. Personal issues, health issues.. but I'm not complaining!

I also had originally had the BBS under GT Power for dial-up from 1992 to 2005...then went to Synchronet, then to Virtual Advanced, but am back to Synchronet.

I ran so many BBS programs back in the day it's crazy! I think my favorite
ones were Telegard/Obvilion/2 I actually paid for QBBS cuz I liked that! I'm really liking Synchronet. It does EVERYthing I wanna do, and I'm always discovering new stuff! After I figure out why the outbounbd mail issues,
gonna figure out why I can't run certain doors. I can say the BBS looks
    better than it runs! hehe!
