we ate at McDonald's, or The Olive Garden. To her...food was food.

I've heard that sugar can do bad things to folks with irritable bowel AH>syndrome I'm concerned about what various "sweet stuff" may be doing
    to your body. :-(

It is RARE that I have sweets...I got some lemon sugar cookie
sandwiches, and Hostess Lemon Cupcakes as a sweet tooth snack...but I
don't devour a whole bunch of them at once.

But, candy is a definite "no-no"...in fact, it has been nearly 5 years
since I late ate candy. The closest I get to chocolate now is a
chocolate iced donut or two on occasion. However, I do avoid the rich
foods, especially desserts...as they will set my colon off.

Two things I can't have anymore (they really set my colon off), are
corn (whole kernel, cream corn, corn on the cob, fried corn), or cole
slaw (either from Kentucky Fried Chicken, or on a barbeque pulled pork sandwich). And yet...I *LOVE* corn, and KFC's slaw...but can't eat them
    ever again <sob!>.

I hear you. Dallas & I are the sort of folks who notice what needs
to be done & just do it, although nobody else seems to notice what we're doi AH>until they expect us to solve all the world's problems. Congratulations. Y AH>have earned your stripes, IMHO, as one of us annoying Old Pharts... [chuckle

I'm too old to cut the mustard, but can still stir the mayonnaise, and
even lick the jar when I'm in the mood. So...please pass the BLT, Onion
Ring, and Doctor Pepper...and no one gets hurt. <G>

By the way, I'm going in for a complete physical on Monday. It has
been so long since I've had a complete going over, as it were, that I
feel it's time to get it out of the way. At least I know that:

    1) I won't need another colonocopy until August or September, 2015. My
last one was in August, 2013, and what polyps they found, were burned
off. They've found polyps twice over the years, but no cancer. The
hemorrhoids are the worst part, especially during the "prep work". But,
I've heard too many horror stories of people who waited too long to get
checked for colorectal cancer. In fact, these cases come to mind:

    A) A 24 year old woman in the area was diagnosed with colon cancer, and
    was dead 6 weeks later.

    B) Another woman was too embarrassed to tell her doctor that she had
blood in her fecal stool. Violent abdominal pain 9 months later, led to
an ambulance run to the Emergency Room, where Stage IV Cancer was discovered...they couldn't do a thing for her.

    C) When I was in the hospital for a week this past February, with severe gastrointeritis, I was right next to the Nurses Station. I heard one of
the gastrointerologists (who was obviously annoyed), noting that a
certain female patient wouldn't do the "prep work" to clean out her
colon (fasting, clear liquid diet, and the purgatives), and he said "I'm willing to keep her in here until she does!!".

    D) When I had my colonoscopy done last year, there was an elderly woman
in her early 80s, coming in for her first colonoscopy. The
gastrointerologist was obviously annoyed at her for waiting so long. I
was afraid that they'd find colon cancer with her.

Years ago, people would talk about their bowels, and wouldn't say a
word about sex. Now...it's the other way around!!

    2) I don't have prostate cancer (the Prostate Specific Antigen test was normal), so I may not need prostate surgery yet. The "prostate size" was "normal", although that digital rectal exam is not the most comfortable
for either gender...but at least it doesn't take long to be done. As
noted, I have a bladder infection, but I can NOT take any antacids
within 2 hours (before or after) of taking the antibiotic for the
    bladder infection.

    3) I'll get an update on blood work, including blood sugar, cholesterol, lipids, etc. I'm not diabetic, but have the potential to become Type 2.
My late wife was a Type 1. I think with Type 2, you have to take the medication, and monitor your blood sugar...but I don't think you have to
do insulin injections. However, I'm ignorant on the subject, so I'm sure
that you, or others, could provide some insight on that.
