Nobody here in the echo? I thought this would be one of the busier echos
in this day and age. Lack of customer service seems to be the norm now.

It's like the joke about "Service"...or lack thereof. You have things
like "Postal Service", "Customer Service", "Internal Revenue Service",
    etc.

Well, the other day, I heard 2 farmers talking...and one told the
other "he had to get a bull to service his cows".

BINGO!! The light came on!! <BG>

I had an experience at work where bending work policies for customers can backfire. SOmetmes its better to just follow the policy even if it upsets
the customer. Generoisty to keep a customer sometimes can be abused.

I noticed it too. It seems like some echos that were once active, just
died... almost overnight. Trek was one of them. Tons of messages then all
    of the sudden, nothing?

Is there some technical issue going on?

not that i'm aware of... echos that were carrying gated newsgroups stopped because of something at the gating system... i'm aware of one newsgroup that was changing their main server but i don't know if they completed that move or not... no posts have been seen in that area since...

    could be yes

    1:

if a node just post to a uplink without being first subscribed, and the echomail area is then created then it exists on both systems without any uplinks, same i could here just "cat msg >/dev/null"

    2:

in case of 1: happended, then there is no sign of breakness for the 2 systems that are connected since there possible are more points nodes waiting for something to happend

    conclusion:

post more, in dead areas, or ask your node to find one more link to this area, and let both nodes be connected

Some echos are very lively for a while then people lose interest and they die away. Some times they get rejuvenated by a new thread and some times they
    never
    make it back.

I ran into that yesterday at the local Kroger store...again.

Several people waiting to check out, only one cash register open, and
no one is at the U-Scan self checkout lanes. To make matters worse,
several waiting to checkout were disabled...it's as if the employees
didn't care who was in line.

And, I've seen Wal-Mart and other businesses do this as well.

It's like the old joke about the word SERVICE...so many people have
forgotten the meaning of the word.

    1) Postal Service: If you want it to get there overnight, do you really
want it to go via the Postal Service?? I sent a package overnight to Connecticut from Arkansas. It went to Massachusetts first, but the
recipients didn't get it until 4 days later. FedEx, UPS, and DHL, exist
    BECAUSE of the Postal Service.

    2) Customer Service: I've seen this at the State Revenue Office, for
getting license plates, drivers licenses, paying property taxes. The
employees are running in LOW GEAR...but when the door closes at 4:30pm,
it's as if "the dead came back to life". They are on their OWN TIME now,
and they have to get everyone waiting inside the office taken care of
    BEFORE they can leave.

    3) Internal Revenue Service. Need I say more??

Well, I heard 2 farmers talking the other day, and one said that he
needed a bull to SERVICE his cows.

BINGO!! The light came on!! <G>
