    Hello,

I am considering to use Renegade as the software for a BBS I'll create to attend some friends that
are crazy about retrocomputing and are asking me to access a BBS using phone lines. ;)

I have visited the Renegade website but I still do not understand which version
    to pick.

I don't maintain the official site, but I am one of the last remaining Renegade systems in the world.

I would strongly suggest you start with 05-11, then upgrade to 98-101D then upgrade to Y2KA2. The reason is because the menu sets from 05-11 are what most people will be familiar with. If you just started with a new install of anything past 05-11, you will get menu sets nobody is familiar with.

The problem with Renegade is that anything past Y2kA2 (the "1.x" series) is full of features that I feel start to drift away from what Renegade was all about. Things like lightbars and stuff resembling Searchlight. If someone wants to run Searchlight, they can run that. Not to mention anything past Y2KA2 has new menu sets and breaks compatibility with 3rd-party software due to internal database structure changes.

Thanks Nick. The idea here is to build a system with
dial-up access only, so I'll start with 05-11 and slowly
    advance into the other versions.

Many thanks for your insights. I believe this endeavour is
going to shake up this echo a little bit. :)

No problem. Make sure you do backups between upgrades...
