    verify.. but it did decode ok

    yeah... i'm not sure bout that... it is either something to do with pulling the
    key from a key server or that mess like web site certificates where they need to be signed by some trusted party... that's where signing others' keys comes into play but you want to only sign those you /know/ come from the individual... the more signatures that you trust that are on a key raises the trust in that key... it is like you meeting me on the street and we don't know each other at all but if you have five friends vouch for me, your level of trust in me increases... if i have five friends who vouch for you, my level of trust in you increases... this trusting also increases for our friends as they now have another positive link to us and each other...
