I am surprised this has not already been posted.

I find it ironic that both South Korea, and a lot of the Expat English teacher community is up in arms over this.

South Korea, is one of the most homogenic, xenophobic, and racist countries on the fact of the earth! It is not uncommon for ethnic groups to be singled out, business unappologetically exclude members of specific races for any excuse they can use ("No Africans" during the Ebola fear, "No Middle Easterners" during MERS, and "No foreigners" during COVID.

Immigration will begin deportation procedings for any excuse they can, even if your charges were dropped, or you were found not guilty of the crimes you were accused of. "You would not have been accused if you were not a criminal."

The English teacher community I can understand, as they are unabashadly far left wing, and love to sit around and complain! Though as far as Korean's themselves are concerned, saying anything at all is the pot calling the kettle black!

As long as due process is followed, they are treated humanely while in detention, Korea needs to make sure their house is in order or sit on the sidelines!

Had I known prior to this that
Hyundais were being made in the USA, I would have been more open to buying one. But now they can forget it; I'd rather buy a Japanese car than buy an American car that was made by illegal immigrants.

The cars themselves are not nor intended to be made my illegal immigrants. The workers brought over were supervising the construction of the plant, and the installation and training on the assembly line tooling and manufacture procedures for the companies spec.

Does not excuse the visa issues, as that is the responsibility of the parent company.

I worked in Korea for 13.5 years. The US company that employeed me were very meticulous regarding the original paperwork, the renewal paperwork which at best occured once a year, at worst every 4 to 6 months. Depending on funding availibility at the time of renewal. There were ALWAYS contingency plans in plan during delays (IE: If we do not have the paperwork approved ready to be taken to immigration by xxx. You will be leaving the country until such time as they are approved..).. Any lapse in our VISAs (OVERSTAYS), could have resulted in fines, deportation (jailed until we were deported), and an entry ban.

Even with a valid visa, any negative involvement with the Korean legal system, immigration was waiting in the wings to begin deportation investigations, even if the charges were dismissed or dropped.

This is the reason I have no sympathy in this matter, any protests is the pot calling the kettle black.
