Under whatever name - the union has a "closed shop"
agreement with the employer which is enforceable in all but
right-to-work states. And this is a problem for you - just
how?
Where you have to join the union after hiring it's called a
union shop. If you have to be union before you are hired it's a
closed shop. I believe, since the apprentices are hired before
they are in the union, there are no more closed shops.
You are, of course, right. I stand corrected. I should have known better as my kid brother went through the pipe-fitter's apprentice program after he got home from Vietnam - using his GI Bill benefits to supplement the lower pay an apprentice gets.
Though it wouldn't surprise me if there was one somewhere.
Me neither.
ENJOY!!!
