I'm trying to communicate from eCS 1.2 (guest) to COM1 on Win XP
(host) and nothing is going through. I've mapped the eCS virtual
COM1 to the physical COM1 but can't get any communications going
(using a serial cable to another PC and running a terminal program,
    eCS has com.sys installed).

how have you tested if the serial data is actually making it to the physical serial port? when i run into problems like this, i always use a breakout box with LEDs on the lines so that i can see what signals the lines have and if any
data does actually come out of the physical serial port...

I did use a break-out box and discovered that with version VPC2004 SP1 (not VPC2005 as originally posted), serial communications is only working from the guest eCS to the outside world. Nothing can be received into the guest eCS. At least on my system.

I upgraded to VPC2007 (upgraded over VPC2004 SP1) and sure enough, serial comm started to work properly.

Now I can use serial communications on a PC without serial ports using a USB to
serial converters. Those RS-232 devices just won't go away...

I've tested the COM1 communication over the host and that works just fine.

Has anybody actually gotten serial comm to work on eCS running as a guest or is
there info available how to troubleshoot this under VPC 2005?

    Thanks,

    Armin.
