I need some help in buying a printer to replace an Epson Stylus
C87. These are my requirements in descending order of importance:

    Not the most expensive (<500.00?)
    Run under Windows (2000, 7)
    Run under Windows and eCS
    Print photographs well
    Print Text
    Either laserjet or inkjet type.
    Ethernet preferred, or USB

Can anyone make some suggestions for me?

I am tired of buying reconditioned gray market printers from Fry's
for which you can hardly find cartridges.

personally?? i'd spend some $$$ and get a known working printer that isn't one of the cheap ones where $$$ are made on ink... we found a HP990CSE that has a parallel connection as well as a USB one... we use the parallel hookup and share it across our network... even without the network, this unit works for all hardware connection OS offerings... *nix, *bsd, DOS, OS/2, winwhatever (up to vista)... for old school stuff, this is the bee's knees... we paid $US900 for is several years ago... if something like it is available today, i'd definitely look at it... however, we also have an all-in-one that has wireless and wired network connections available and doesn't require a "dedicated" machine to be able to use it... this one, unfortunately, doesn't work with the older OS stuffs... my Kubuntu 8 and 9 machines can talk to it as well as my w2k
    and higher boxes...

personally, (again) i'd be looking for the best old school stuff if i could find it without encroaching newer updates on my network...
