Maximum file size on FAT32 is 4gb. Are you exceeding it?

I've got a directory on my local HD that I'm using XCOPY to save off on to the
    thumb
    drive.

Part of the way through the copy, the system will report it is unable to close
    the source
and target file. It can routinely fail at the same place. And once in a while
    it gets farther
before reporting this error. It happens with the OS/2 Command and the 4OS2 Command applications.

I'm thinking that the USB thumb (& system) is still trying to perform the write operation
when the XCOPY command tries to close the file. RSYNC program has a similar problem and has failed at the same place too.

RSYNC doesn't fail (nor does the XCOPY) if the destination is a USB Hard drive, or a
    local SATA disk.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? And if so, how did you get around it.

I'm using the eCS 2.1 delivered USB stack except for the mouse & keyboard.
