• Dual Layer and RSJ Writer

From "conixks1"@1:3634/1000 to All on Wed Jul 13 12:57:55 2011

Has anyone tried and been successful writing a dual layer DVD from RSJ Writer on OS/2?

I'm considering getting a DVD drive that supports writing DL disks, as well as getting the disks too.

I have a licensed copy of the latest OS/2 available RSJ software.

I hope to find someone who has been successful doing this before I spend the money and time to try it out.

Feedback would be appreciated very much.

    -Mark

    Mark:

Why don't you ask this question directly to RSJ people, and share with us the answer? They should know better.

Still no word back from RSJ on the query. If and when I get one, I'll
    share.

At this time of the year it would be better not to have much
    expectations about some reply.

Or better, you better don't have much expectations at all. You can
    download the "latest" manual here:

    http://www2.rsj.de/pub/cdwos2/doc/cdwos2usd.pdf

    Which says at page 36:

    *******
    Creating Data-DVDs
Using RSJ CD Writer you can create data-DVDs. At the moment the
creation of video- or audio-DVD's is not possible.
To create a data-DVD please use the filesystem and then finalize the DVD. **********

Maybe it would be possible to write data to two layers, but there isn't
much point in it, is it?

DVD/CD Toys uses cdrtools as back-end, so the developer invested all

Thanks for the heads up on the tools. The next time I'm at Mensys, I'll take a look.

Any current users of the tool are welcome to share the pros and cons of the aforementioned tool. I would be interested to hear what you have to share.

    regards,
    Mark

think there isn't much point is writing DL DVD disks?

As you know by know, rsj only is capable of writing data to two layer
DVD, two layers that should be about 1.6 Mb at max, right?

So it should imho be much more productive to write to a 2 Gig USB stick,
as those sticks costs about nothing these days.
