  • [OS2HW] Brother MFC-7420 or MFC 7820N

From "Don Hawkinson"@1:3634/1000 to All on Sat Jan 16 00:17:14 2010

Has anyone got a Brother MFC-7420 or MFC 7820N
USB printer working with eCS 2.0 silver or any other
    version of eCS?

looking at the list of Gutenprint supported printers (that eCups/2 uses):

    http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php

I see the only Brother MFCs listed as:

    Brother MFC-6550MC brother-mfc-6550mc Brother-MFC-6550MC Brother MFC-8300 brother-mfc-8300 Brother-MFC-8300 Brother MFC-9500 brother-mfc-9500 Brother-MFC-9500 Brother MFC-9600 brother-mfc-9600 Brother-MFC-9600

So unless your MFC is compatible with one of these, I suspect you may be unlucky.

According to specs on Brother's site the MFC 7820N supports PCL 6 &
    BR-Script 3 while the MFC-7420 is Windows« GDI only. I'd seriously doubt
the MFC-7420 would work with eCS unless eCUPS supports it. But the MFC
    7820N should work without a problem. I have a Brother MFC-9840CDW which
also supports PCL6 and BR-Script 3 (which is really their version of PostScript 3 Language Emulation) and it works really well with the Laserjet and postscript drivers in eCS 2.0. To get full postscript support I had to use Alex Taylor's INSTPDR to add the windows or maybe it was the Mac, BrotherMFC9840CDW.PPD file to pscript.drv. Even the duplexer works. The scanner/fax does not work with Tame/2, but my MFC-9840CDW has the ability
to email or ftp a scanned image so if I needed it I could use that.

    Mark
