If boot-from-LAN is active, some BIOS will attempt to verify the functionality of the connection, even if there are bootable drives ahead
of it in the the boot queue. No harm, just a nuisance. Only fix is deactivate. That was compliments of of a couple ASUS development guys I cornered.

Boot-from-LAN was not active. So much for that hypothesis.

I have just acquired a MB.

Prior to selecting an OS to boot, it puts up "MAC address are invalid
both in CMOS and FLASH! Press F1 to continue". It then boots OK.
    Anyone understand this?

USBCFG,EXE says UHCI=4, EHCI=1, both available and installed. However,
during boot it says, four times, "UHCI not found". A thumb drive is accessible.

MAC address would be for the network adapter. Don't know why they would be invalid. Each network device has it's own MAC address. Have you tried changing any settings for a built in NIC?

Is this a BIOS message or an Acronis message? I can't tell based how you worded this.

What MB is this? Does it have built-in boot from LAN suport?

USBCFG,EXE says UHCI=4, EHCI=1, both available and installed. However, >during boot it says, four times, "UHCI not found". A thumb drive is >accessible.

On which ports does the drive work?

How many instances of usbuhcd.sys are you trying to install in config.sys?

It is prior to Acronis; BIOS, POST???

    It then boots OK.

Intel 775. I don't have other details here.

I just stuck it into one on the MB, I don't have a port number.

How many instances of usbuhcd.sys are you trying to install in config.sys?

USBCFG says UHCI=four. I'll have to check later.

    I am leaving for CES.

Also, the BIOS typeomatic rate setting has been removed from the BIOS
because Windows provides that function. I told them they did serious
damage to second grade computer use because the kids cannot attempt to
    log-in without getting extra characters.

And, some RAM makers push (standards, technology???) such that some RAM
will not work in some MBs.

I started seeing it gone many years ago in AMI BIOS. I don't recall seeing it gone in any Award BIOS.
