    Greetings Group
I must apologize for letting my enthusiasm over discovering that one of my Puppy Linux Live CD's could read HPFS cause me to recommend it to the group. I
really don't know whether it was because of the version (I have several)or recall if it was one I'd customized some time ago. So while the bad news is that the newest version does not support HPFS "out of the box", the slightly good news is that it isn't hard to modify to do so.

The really oh so excellent news is that the latest version of Slax http://www.slax.org/
not only has the HPFS module enabled by default, but it defaults to READ-WRITE!
Yes, one can edit config.sys with an editor more useful and friendly than "Tedit", view the entire HPFS (or JFS) partition with decent file managers in details view, icon view, whatever you like, make adjustments like renaming FOUND.000 files to original locations, see that it is correct and then boot a recovered Warp with no problems I've seen so far and I have done fairly extensive work on that bad Fujitsu drive I mentioned from Slax on Warp. No breakage so far, just a boon of tools that are a pleasure to have, second only to a full blown bootable maintenance clone on hdd.

The only work required on the stock Slax boot goes something like this:

    ##### Commands only display quotes for clarity, remove quotes when typing #####

    "mkdir /mnt/warp"
    "modprobe hpfs"

    #### if unsure of linux partition numbering, run "cfdisk" on drives to see #####
    #### here I'm assuming Warp is on /dev/foo2 partition ####

    "mount -t hpfs /dev/foo2 /mnt/warp"

    ##### DONE ! #####

Incidentally, if one prefers commercial (read "costs money") tools for partition work and cuss at the limitations of PQMagic v4, Acronis Disk Director
handles HPFS just fine and similarly to PQMagic as well as having been updated for larger drives and numerous file systems PQMagic 4 can't handle. It can even
"undelete" a lost HPFS partition, though it takes a long time on modern drive sizes. Actually, that's a process better served slowly and deliberately so I consider it a benefit. I have no affiliation with any sore company or retail outlet so this isn't an advertisement. It's just info that you can check out for yourself w/o paying a dime, especially if you have the Hiren's CD.

    Best wishes
    Jimmy
