• [OS2HW] T42 stuck at 1024x768 on external TFT?

    Hi all,

I've been successfully running two 'twin' MCP2 systems at two different addresses for some time, so all I needed to carry from one house to the other was a little external 2.5" HD with my data, and now I'm facing a real PITA.

    Systems:

System A is a 14" Thinkpad T42 with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 with 64MB memory; native LCD resolution is 1400x1050, but I have the TP connected to a docking station so I can use normal size peripherals, the external monitor is a 19" TFT Planar PL1910M running at 1280x1024.

System B is another 14" T42 with an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 with 32MB; native LCD resolution is 1024x768, identical docking station, external 19" Nokia CRT monitor happily running at 1280x1024.

OS is MCP2, cloned from one HD to the other with minimal cfg changes to make WIFI work (A and B WiFis use GenMac so the only difference is in protocol.ini)

    The problem:

The Nokia monitor attached to System B died and for three months I used the laptop LCD running at its max res 1024x768 (a bit sucky but OK for weekends). Now I finally got a replacement Planar 1910M identical to the other one, but system B refuses to switch back to 1280x1024.

I have carried all equipment over to the same house to conduct some tests and I'm stuck. System A works perfectly at 1280x1024 docked in either station and connected to any monitor, but System B lists video modes up to 1024x768, tops. Swapping primary HDs yields the exact same results after any number of swaps (advantage of nearly identical twins). Of course, both laptops have the system display directed to the external monitor (DVI) when PM loads, and they are NOT in dual mode.

Both systems used to run SNAP/SE 2.2.x. I have just updated one to latest 3.0.8 released by Scitech from Hobbes (reported driver timestamp etc. was the same hence I never upgraded) and I get exactly the same results - when HD with SNAP 3 is mounted in System A everything is OK, but max resol available in System B is 1024x768.

Needless to say, if I boot Windows XP in System B I can work at 1280x1024 just like before - Also, both SNAP versions report my monitor/model as unknown/wrong (no XP .INF file to import, the Planars were real PnP from the start) but its resolution is listed right in graphics.log:

    Monitor configuration:
    Manufacturer... Unknown
    Model.......... Novatek 563D
    Max Resolution. 1280x1024
    Max HScan...... 80 KHz
    Max VScan...... 75 Hz
    Features....... DPMS

Planar capabilities are listed like that in both systems with both SNAPs, too.

I suspect something at the BIOS level but I see no settings to tweak. SNAP (both versions) also reports I have no TV out capabilities when that used to work perfectly with WarpVision, but it's been centuries since I last played with it and I'm not sure it's relevant at all now.

Any ideas? I'm ready to post any logs from any hard/soft combinations if you think something can be done.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,
    Alfred.
