Ah..I see I need to update that old .sig. Forgot about that!
What do you think about Porcupine Tree? I've been needlessly obsessed with the "Deadwing" album for some reason. I keep going back to "Arriving Somewhere, Not Here."
My brother is a big fan of them. I really like Gavin's drumming, but haven't really gotten in the albums that much.
"Snakes and Arrows" was really good. I think "Vapor Trails" was great too..only because we were lucky the band got back together after Neil's tragedies. Speaking of which...Vapor Trails is kind of the audio counterpart to Neil Peart's "Ghost Rider" book. The tarot cards in the liner are explained in the book. Quite a good read too. I enjoyed Neil's trip across Canada to the arctic circle and down to Mexico. The drum-solo opening to "One Little Victory" is kind of like Neil telling the world he's back.
I agree with all of that (yeah, read the book too).
Oddly enough on Slacker there is a re-issue of Vapor Trails that I absolutely hate. They re-mixed all the songs and I really hate the end result. Not sure what the hell they were thinking with that one.
Totally disagree on that one. Vapor Trails was a horrible mix/master, overly compressed (dynamically) and sonically harsh. I *much* prefer the mixmaster. You can actually hear Geddy's awesome bass work on One Little Victory. A/B the two versions of the songs and I think you'll come to the same conclusion. There are full parts of the songs that now stand out as "new" to me that were completely buried in the mix before. I love it.

Are you sure about that? :-)
