Yesterday we got Rain! Thankfully not freezing rain, though... and it
seems to be soaking in ok, too. There's forecast for snow and rain for tonight and the weekend... dunno what we'll really get...
This one ended in the middle of things... with Cybermen materialising
and Daleks showing up as well, just at the end. I think the second half
is tonight... maybe I'll find out what happened... <G> I see the
Daleks, I remember that they were based on salt shakers... <G>
I had a certificate that expired the 20th, so I was out in one store on
the 19th... and remembering well why I don't like being in stores this season. ;)
Perhaps the world will settle down down into holiday mode...Perhaps...

Sounds very familiar - which Doctor fronted, I wonder ?
'Twas indeed (the below mentioned) David Tennent.
Do we get it before, after, or at about the same time as you?
Unknown - our main TV channel is presently besotted with American
crime hunters; they've gone off true-blue British fare, allowing
the lesser stations to build audience with haphazard selections
that they can afford.
There appears to be a series 3 and 4 heading your way, plus all
manner of 'specials'
My niece's husband follows the
shows on the Internet somehow... haven't really paid attention to that
either, I must admit. :/
I see that there are a whole series of specially-prepared
"webcasts" put out by the BBC - seems like you've introduced me to
a whole new way of getting Beeb-quality material ....
Hottest month here is usually February - just when we send kids
back to school....
Yesterday's newscasts showed our major southern town, Dunedin,
coated in fresh falls of hail - with the kids snowballing and
sledding (sledging?)...
Our long-range weather forecasts for the whole year are also
promising a colder, drier year. Given that the last few months
have been the coldest on record (since the 1840s),
It seems that we are cursed to visit Global Freezing before the
dreaded Warming settles on us ...
And there's no point in escaping back to England - they're
snowbound worse; a lovely news item reported that a group that
gathered in their local pub to celebrate the New Year got snowed
in and are only just now getting out back to their own snowed-in
homes ... what a way to go !
Take rubbish bags, f'instance; I buy them in lots of 5 from the
council, all prepaid for collection. One goes out every week with
the organic waste, regular as clockwork. So how come I seem to
have to buy a new set every fortnight ? Beats me...
Apparently they get used for other purposes as well? :) Or, is it the neighbors mooching bags to get their waste collected...? ;)
PS I'm still awaiting the stuff of a query from my nephew's chum...
if it isn't forthcoming, I might just take the general stuff I've
already been given and run it past... :) neb
Best of the season to you, as well... :)
I'm still waiting on details from my nephew's colleague... if/when I
get them, I'll probably have something that maybe someone can chew
on... ;)
BTW, I see that you come in through Bob Seaborn's hub... things got delayed there, and just recently (9th) made it to us... Interesting to
see which ones got stuck there... ;)
Quoting Miles Maxted to Nancy Backus on 12-20-09 05:30 <=-
At least you are getting weather more fitting
(traditionally) to the season... ;)
We seem to be in cloud and a westerly breeze as I type...
A touch of snow on our hallmark volcano peak would really turn me
on !
It would be pretty, I imagine... :)
Give me an email address - our Xmas card reveals all...
No, we got a stay of execution.
Excellent ... he's my emergency backup whenever things freeze on
the BBS.
You too, eh? :)
Guilty - I got stuck at about 28...

And perhaps someone else might take charge of such mundane matters as
buying the lots...? :)
Ha! And then who'd have time for the gardening, Scottish Country dancing, World of War and t'other high-priorities ?
Ok, look for a bit of it in the next message... :)
Will do ...

Best of the season to you, as well... :)
Thank you ... we need your support - it's officially summer here
BUT wintery winds, temperatures and rain are still dominating...
I'm still waiting on details from my nephew's colleague... if/when I
get them, I'll probably have something that maybe someone can chew
on... ;)
Look forward to that !
Yes ... there was a long blank after the 25th November that was worrisome, and then my local BBS's modem didn't hang up for a
couple of days...
Thanks to the sysops, however, things look good for Xmas !
Happy holidays !
A little warmer then? Or is it producing wind chill?
While our whole East Coast is being deluged with snow (breaking records all over), we, in western NY, so far haven't had as much as they all season so far... We've had temps in the teens (F), but not that much precipitation, not that I'm complaining, mind you.
... I predict that today will be remembered until tomorrow!
Apparently it depends here on whether one is watching public telly, or
if one has cable, and can get "BBC America"...
There appears to be a series 3 and 4 heading your way, plus all
manner of 'specials'
Something to be looking forward to, then... :) We haven't cable.. only the local public broadcasting channel..
Oddest weather, for sure. :)
I read an interesting article some time ago, in Analog [Science Fact & Fiction] Magazine. The point of it was that Global Warming might not
be a Bad Thing, as according to weather patterns we should have been heading into another little Ice Age... and we might have been holding
it off by our "bad" actions... :) An interesting alternative point of view, at the very least...
Climate change probably, but I don't think that sounds like
"global warming" much... !
At least you are getting weather more fitting
(traditionally) to the season... ;)

If it isn't one thing it's another... Similar has been
happening around here at some of the bbses I frequent.
Others have thankfully not been affected except by not
getting the messages from the affected ones...
Sysops are wonderful people, that's for sure. :)
Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what
happened.

Wind chill in the morning yesterday, flipping to 25C at 1300hrs...

The news here is full of blizzardly snow across the northern
hemisphere for America and Europe, with even the submarine
Eurotrains being affected.... hope you escape all that !
Thanks for the address - one Xmas card on its way !
... I predict that today will be remembered until tomorrow!
Do'st ever view "Dr Who" ? He's in the business of remembering
tomorrow today....
We've just survived having a week of "SALES, UP TO 7O% OFF...", a
wierd sort of post-Xmas retail frenzy that didn't really work... Interestingly, it doesn't leave the real post-Xmas experts much
leeway to discount into; I'm expecting to be paid to help relieve
them of their overstocking problems !

Second half, the Cybermen and Daleks fought each other for Earth, and
to save all, the Doctor found a way to sweep them all back into the
void from which they'd come. Meanwhile the companion got taken into an
alternative timeline, and when the void closed, there was no way to get
her back into this one... End of this series... ;)
Sounds very familiar - which Doctor fronted, I wonder ?
I hear that David Tennent's very last performance in England on
this New Year's Day attracted 11 million viewers ... and mutter hopelessly because it'll take years to be showm here... Whoever
takes on the role has very big boots to fill.
And then I got caught needing to get prescriptions from the pharmacy in
our grocery store, on New Year's Eve... with the store (to say nothing
of the parking lot) as packed as I've ever seen it and then some.
Murphy's Law strikes again and again and...
I see that you've made use of your backup... :) I've been a little further behind than the season should had done, as my primary changed softwares which made the packet I did have done obsolete... doing the catching up now... :)
Time-travelling again !
On New Year's Day here, we went 120km north up to Waipu for their
139th Highland Games and associated Scottish activities ....
(The Waipu settlers moved first to Nova Scotia from the Clearances
in Scotland ... and then re-located to New Zealand, sailing down
the Atlantic, round the Cape and under Australia to eventual
harbour in the north of our North Island - an epic voyage that
rendered them a lot dourer than your ordinary Scot...)
Now we're into the Silly Season with everything on holiday; not a
word to the aggressors of this world - New Zealand is closed until
the 18th inst., please call in again then....

Neither ... 'tis my selective memory at work, overlooking such
mundane matters as using up the stock until it runs out - and then
trying to excuse the slip by swearing blind (when buying the next
set) that we'd only just bought the last lot....
The consequence has family members wandering around the house
wondering what to do with the rubbish in the hand for half-a-
day muttering things about senility, competence and confusion....
:-(
"Ignoring history" would be a far more accurate and acceptable
comment...

My niece's husband follows the

It's about at the peak of your summer, too, isn't it... Winter has finally closed in here... temps getting into the single digits (F), and not rising out of the 20's... pretty much at least some snow every day
to clear off the car and off the roads and walkways... We only had
things closed down sporadically over the past two weeks... 24,25,31Dec
and 1Jan. Otherwise it tends to be business as usual, as long as one doesn't become snowed in or sick with the flu... ;)

truly, in ignoring history we doom ourselves to reliving it - bad
weather included.....

Sir Isaac had it absolutely right... and yup, too bad that we don't pay attention to that which has gone before... Although, to be honest, as
he said, it really isn't what we do that makes all that much
difference. We could merely be more prepared for the fact that things
DO cycle! ;0

So far so good... We are nestled up to the long side of Lake Ontario,
so we miss some of the lake effect stuff... we are also far enough
inland that the recent system wasn't anywhere near us... all we got
was the cold air, not the hurricane moisture turning into blizzards
from it.
Used to watch it all the time, got out of the practice. But did just
see an episode Saturday night, with the newest Doctor... I think my favorites have been Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and Sabastian (whatever his last name was)...
The retailers are worried... but people without money, or credit, or jobs, etc, aren't going to be able to buy much, however much they would like to... I tend to try to stay out of stores from Thanksgiving to
after Christmas... the crowds and frenzy are not at all to my liking.
Not much of a shopper in the best of instances, anyway...
