i'm not sure what mailer is normally used with hotdoged... as i
understand it, there's another set of apps/services that go with it...

There's a fidonet addon for it, and that handles the mailer portion.

right, that's what i'm talking about above... i just don't recall if it is binkd or not... apparently it is :)

do you have a packet password set? if yes, how long it is? PKT
passwords can only be eight (8) characters long... session passwords
generally have the same restriction with standard FTN software because
the initial exchange between mailers is a PKT but binkd has its own...

I had a node password set, but it was longer than 8 characters. I shortened it, and that seems to have resolved the problem. I need to
do some more testing, but it looks like one message went through.

there ya go... that's the one bug we know of that can cause the address(es) in the PKT header to be incorrect...

    This suggests there's a bug somewhere. I don't know whether it's
    hotdoged

it is in hotdoged, already known about and a fix is due soonish...

or binkd, but apparently if you set a password longer than 8
characters, the region part of the address (at least in the hotdoged->binkd direction) gets munged.

there's no such thing as "the region part of the address"... you have "zone:net/node.point" and may have "@domain" on the end or "domain#" at the beginning IIRC when seeing FTN addresses written out normally... each of these five values has its own field in the fixed size binary PKT header... the original Type 2 (aka stoneage) packets only have room for zone:net/node... no point or domain... the next version, Type 2+ has room for zone:net/node.point but no domain... the third version, Type 2.2 has room for all five...

i think we need more information regarding your installation... you are
running hotdoged on some sort of ""smartphone"" device thing, right??

Yes, it's running on an android.

ok... i think we've got your problem solved... i've crossposted this to HOTDOGED, too...

Ok, I've got this one cross posted too. The editor I was using can't (?) cross post, apparently.

Ok, so netmail comes from the phone/hotdoged to the boss node and is received there. Netmail coming back goes into binkd, hotdoged picks it up when I sync, but the mail doesn't appear on the phone/hotdoged.

So that seems to be the last piece to figure out. I'm not sure what's misconfigured.

Yes, you're right. I meant zone.

    no problem :)

Yes, so the boss node is: 1:218/401 (3D address)
And the point node is: 1:218/401.1 (4D address)

And to clarify, binkd is on the boss node, not the smartphone (hotdoged point node).

ahhh, yes... that helps with clarification, too... glad we got the problem (too
long password) solved for you, too...

yeah, that sounds like something for the HOTDOGED support echo... we'll continue over there...

Are you sure your password is not longer than 8 symbols? If yes, then logs would be appreciated.

I've double checked that, and even made it only 7.

I sent an email to the point address, and did a sync, then took logs. Where should I send them?

    Cheers,

Try send logs to developer from the menu of the main screen. Do it just after receiving incoming netmail.

one of the thing i wonder about is if the bug that allows longer than 8 characters for the PKT password also allows for less than 8 and reduces the size of the fixed PKT header...

I guess there is no such bug. I've tried shorter passwords, they do work :)

great! i wasn't sure since we'd only heard about the one greater than eight character password lengths...
