    Ahem.

Do you know WHY Jesus came? His REAL: purpose? He told you, and it had
nothing to do with the cross, comming again, forgiving sins...it's a lot simpler than that.
(Ponderously opening huge bible, turning pages for twenty minutes)....
    Ah.
In Mark. Or Matthew. One of those.
    Here it is:
'I came that you have life and live it abundantly.'
Some charlitens on TV preach that "God want you to be rich!"
    God wants nothing, really.
Godess now is another thing entirely. She want's knowledge. About anything. Sooo anytiog you learn She'll thank you for. In the unlikely persistence of consciousness in any form post mortum you can believe that She will share.
    :-)

Looks like those who don't have to rely on invisible
    imaginary beings are -> happier.

Well now, daggummit, lookie here! Religion ain't t' make ya
happy, theys supposed to set you free!

Organized religion has done a pretty fair job of enslaving people
over -> the past five or six thousand years.

Yep. That was a mere misstep, an exploratory action. They've all outgrown that, which is why there is peace in the world.

..and I DID say "supposed" :-)

I'm pretty much in favour of unorganized religion m'self.
These days there a far greater knowledgeability available to a far greater percentage of humans...perhaps truth will be more sought
(Which The Guy sez, is what SETS you free...)
Remember the only time The Guy was pissed off was when he was in church...

I think the main point here, is being missed by the theists.
THE theists? 5 billion people missed something?

Universal health care does improve the standard of living for a lot of people, which of course will do more for a person's mood than a blind
belief in some invisible, intangible deity.

Ohhhh Kay....lotto winners can safely become atheists...(I don't really see
    a religious connection here.)

I am content, sure there are luxuries I'd love to have, but for obvious reasons I can't.
A car would be one of those luxuries.

Happiness is wanting what you have not having what you want.

I gave up religion as a whole, since there is no evidence of any of the blind beliefs touted by the theists.

There is no evidence of a Grecien, Urn, the Higgs boson, or my glasses,
    but...

Every time I ask for evidence, I get appeals to authority, "Read your Bible!" or vague, easily debunked claims.
Read it as poetry Like Hamlet, it contain lots of good stuff often
referenced. It's taken various kinds of seriously and has been for
    centuries.
As far as authority is concerned....ahem...
