Great to hear KloneZone is still plugging away, Daniel. Thanks for responding to the thread. I think we had a local here in 393 who dabbled with TeleFinder many years ago, but eventually went to FirstClass. Time flies, doesn't it!

KloneZone was run on a Mac, but I don't know if it's still online. he
    sysop ran a Telefinder board.

Hello Walter. I've never heard of it; but unless I am mistaken, in order to >log on to a Telefinder BBS, you need to be actually using the Telefinder >client, correct? Also, if I recall correctly, when you purchase that BBS >package, you also have to choose how many users you wish to purchase as >well.

That is incorrect on both counts.

    1. TF has a plain text interface as well as an ANSI interface in addition to the GUI interface for Mac or Windows.

    2. The various packages differ in how many bbs nodes you want to concurrently run. TF does not have a user limit. I helped test the software, and supplied suggestinions for improvements. I have an unlimited node license. I have some nodes configured to respond to Telnet connections, a singl dial up node, and several GUI nodes for TF callers. I had a POP 3 node too, but I disabled it.

That is one reason why I personally have never been drawn to that kind of
BBS software; that is, because while it may have a nice non-PC ANSI type of >interface, it also limits both the SysOp, as well as end users.

In other words, unless he is willing to pay more money, the SysOp is limited >by how many total users he can have, and a lot of end users are not going to >be willing to install a special piece of software -- the client -- just so >they can log on to one particular BBS. I was never inclined to do so.

this is not correct regarding TF. Practical limits would be in place regaring incomming phone lines and such anyway. There is no user limit in TF.

As you know, with BBS software like Hermes -- and so many others in the PC >and Mac BBSing world -- anybody can log on from anywhere, and there is no >limit to how many users you can have. Personally, I find that approach much >more appealing.

Since I put the Armageddon BBS back online back in 2008, I have done a lot
to try to inspire others to set up their Macintosh-based BBS, but sadly, I >haven't made very much progress. I advertise my board on FidoNet, in the >alt.bbs.ads Usenet newsgroup, on a number of Macintosh-oriented message >forums on the web, etc., but while a few people take an interest, and will >telnet into my board, to my knowledge, no one has set up their own Mac
    BBS.

Oh well...One can only do so much to try to revive this hobby.

Hello Daniel. Thanks for your comments, but I must respectfully disagree
with you regarding the above point. I don't know how long you have been associated with TeleFinder, but I seem to recall that back in its heyday
during the late 80's/early 90's, TeleFinder was marketed differently. The reason why I know this, is because we were considering using TeleFinder to
host our Macintosh Users Group BBS at the local university. As I recall, at that time, Spider Island sold TeleFinder by user packages. For a specific price, one could purchase the server side of the software which would allow
so many user accounts. It is possible that over the years the company has changed its business strategy, but back then, I am relatively certain that
this is how it was sold. The more money you were willing to pay, the more
user accounts could be created on the server. Rather than go that route,
being as we were on a limited budget, we chose to use Public Address and Hermes. I continue to use Hermes to this day on my personal BBS.
