  • Fastecho and HPT?

    Hello There,

    Will Fastecho read a HPT created JAM message base? Or will I need to somehow convert it over so that FE can use it?

    I would prefer using an existing message base than starting from scratch.

    I would assume so. A JAM msgbase is just that, wheather it was created by HPT or FastEcho shouldn't matter.

    I would prefer using an existing message base than starting from scratch.

    That should be possible as long as both software are sticking to the program.

    JAM is JAM is JAM... everything that support JAM should work just fine... the first gotcha i can think of, though, is the "last read" pointer used to tell the tosser what the last message scanned out was... this is one of the reasons why JAM creates the ECHOMAIL.JAM and NETMAIL.JAM files with the area names and the message numbers of the locally posted messages that need to be exported... "last read" pointers for the tossers are not needed ;)

    i guess the rough date would also be good since there was some changes made during early development and adoption...

    The reading tosser was HPT 1.4. I don't remember the tosser that created the JAM files (Could have been Gecho) although the files were of some vintage. They were from an archive that I considered making available. I only have one Win32 machine that I still use. All the other PC's here are 64 bit Linux.

    i guess the rough date would also be good since there was some changes made during early development and adoption...

    7-10 years maybe.

    ... Still crazy after all these years.... ;*)
