Japan Nuclear Plants - Why We're Confused

Over the past few days, as I've been reading the ongoing news concerning the tragic events that are occurring at this time in Japan, with the record earthquake, the destructive tsunami, and now the dire situation with the Fukushima Dai-ichi, Dai-ni, Dai-san (?) and Dai-yon (?) nuclear reactors, an interesting thought occurred to me.
As you may have heard, the U.S. government and the Japanese government now seem to be at odds regarding the severity of the situation at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, and the mass media certainly isn't being of any help.
If we consider that governments have a propensity for obfuscating the facts, and particularly for making a bad situation look better than it really is, while on the other hand, news agencies have a tendency to paint us a picture which may make the situation look worse than it really is -- intentional sensationalism -- because of readership, viewership, profit and other
concerns, is it really any wonder that we the people end up confused?
Personally, I strongly suspect that the Japanese government is involved in
some major damage control at this current time, and that they are
intentionally withholding important and critical information from the public
-- and probably even from Uncle Sam -- if for no other reason than the
serious embarrassment that it is causing them. The Japanese are a very proud people.
Having said all of that, my heart really goes out to the Japanese people.
These events are going to affect some of them for the rest of their lives.
Many will no doubt eventually experience serious health complications
arising from the current radiation leaks, while others may even die sooner
than later, as some already have. I thank God that I don't live anywhere
near any nuclear power plants. I have found some of the news articles very informative, but also quite alarming.
My personal prayer is that through all of this, some of the Japanese people will acknowledge God in their lives, and will accept His Son, Jesus Christ,
as their Lord and Savior. Sometimes it takes a desperate situation to
motivate people to get desperate with God. It shouldn't be that way, but
that is sinful human nature. We only call out to Him when we need His help.
