Evidence For Global Warming Is Mounting

Despite continuing denials by the leaders of Big Business and the
fast-talking politicians who pander to them, the evidence for Global Warming continues to mount.
According to the latest figures released by both NASA and the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, not only was 2010 the wettest year
on record, but insofar as the global average surface temperature is
concerned, 2010 tied with 2005 as being the hottest year on record since record-keeping first began in 1880. More specifically, the global average surface temperature for 2010 was 1.12 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th
century average of 57 degrees. In fact, the global average surface
temperature has been above the 20th Century average since 1976.
If that isn't enough to alarm you, then consider that the new figures
released by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
also reveal that nine of the ten hottest years on record have occurred since 2001; so it is time to sit up and take notice. Something is happening to our world climate, and we simply cannot continue to bury our heads in the sand,
and pretend that all is well.
While an increase of 1.12 degrees Fahrenheit may not seem like a significant amount to most people, what we need to realize is that any temperature variation has an overall long-term effect on the world's climate. In the
case of slowly rising temperatures, it contributes to such things as
glaciers melting, rivers flooding, sea levels slowly rising and coastal inundation, and other long-term, damaging effects. Concerning 2010 itself,
in a January 12th article entitled "Figures on Global Climate Show 2010 Tied 2005 as the Hottest Year on Record", New York Times writer Justin Gillis
notes the following:
----- Begin Quote -----
"It featured prodigious snowstorms that broke seasonal records in the United States and Europe; a record-shattering summer heat wave that scorched
Russia; strong floods that drove people from their homes in places like Pakistan, Australia, California and Tennessee; a severe die-off of coral
reefs; and a continuation in the global trend of a warming climate."
----- End Quote -----
As I have stated before, being a Christian writer, I tend to look at and try
to understand things from a spiritual perspective. Is there a spiritual
cause and reason behind the current changes that the world's climate is undergoing? Is it possible that God is trying to get our attention? What do
you think?
