    Hello everybody!

Did you know that Onions are toxic to dogs. The toxicity is dose dependent, so the bigger the animal, the more onion need be consumed to cause a toxicity. Onion toxicity causes a Heinz body anemia. Heinz bodies are small bubble-like projections which protrude from a red blood cell and can be seen when the cells
are stained. This "bubble" is a weak spot in the red blood cell and, therefore,
the cell has a decreased life-span and ruptures prematurely.

    Matt

I also heard it was cumulative. I have heard it more than once. It's damagebuilds up over time. I also find it odd too, that if You pay attention to a lotof canned dog food. A lot of them contain Onion/onion powder. With all the badstuff from china and onion in a lot of brands, it truly concerns me how muchthese Pet food manufacturers actually know what they are doing.

if it affects our dogs, then it also affects us humans, doesn't it?

No Mark.. The Dogs do not have an enzyme to break it down properly.

we've never had any problems with our dogs and onions... it is one of the flavor "spices" that we add to their foods specifically to deter them from eating raw meats and similar... onions, garlic, peppers (spicy and sweet), etc... all of our dogs have lived to very ripe old ages...

Not going to tell You what to do, but I would stop that. I have been told, LikeChocolate, Never feed it to a dog. Chocolates' effects may go away and is worseon susceptible dogs. But the Vet told me that Onions have a cumulative affectand affect the Blood cells, You may not notice a problem after immediatelyfeeding them onions. But they are very toxic and over a period of time, Shesaid it will give the dog an incurable blood disease. The damage usuallyhappens slowly over a period of time. But it is SERIOUS Damage. Those arebasicially the terms as she put it to me. Chocolate, Green Grapes and Broccoliare generally all no no's. But Onions, though the damage is not seen right awayis up near the top of a list of things not to feed them.
