I suspect that's normal behavior. My new arrival, Jake - a 40 ob chow/rottweiler/? mix, tried to assert some dominance over the
group of (5) dogs that live in the house. Buddy, a 110 lb black
lab mix, just ignored him and the others pretty much did the same
thing. Jake has since learned that *I* am the dominant male of the
group.
I should note that Jake is the only one of (12) dogs (6 in the house and
6 in an outside kennel) that isn't neutered. That's going to
happen when my tax refund comes in early next year.

The way to do that when you first get them is blow in their nose.
It's a method I learned from a dog trainer many years ago and it
works.

I thought you were trying to cut down on your number of dogs? (-:
I'm not actively seeking out more, but I took Jake in in what was
supposed to be a temporary arrangement while his owner/master was
in the hospital. Unfortunately the fellow died, that wasn't in the
script. No family or relatives and nobody else seemed to want to
take the dog, so here he stays.
