dog sitting is not that fun when you get the new dog trying to force dominance
on the dogs who regularly live at my place.

    I suspect that's normal behavior. My new arrival, Jake - a 40 ob chow/rottweiler/?
mix, tried to assert some dominance over the group of (5) dogs that live in the
house. Buddy, a 110 lb black lab mix, just ignored him and the others pretty much
did the same thing. Jake has since learned that *I* am the dominant male of the
    group.

I should note that Jake is the only one of (12) dogs (6 in the house and 6 in an outside
kennel) that isn't neutered. That's going to happen when my tax refund comes in early
    next year.

The way to do that when you first get them is blow in their nose. It's a method I learned from a dog trainer many years ago and it works.

I thought you were trying to cut down on your number of dogs? (-:

I'm not actively seeking out more, but I took Jake in in what was supposed
to be a temporary arrangement while his owner/master was in the hospital. Unfortunately the fellow died, that wasn't in the script. No family or relatives
and nobody else seemed to want to take the dog, so here he stays.

Sorry to hear. That makes you okay in my book, Bob. Of course, you were never
    not.

Really? I've been told not to do stuff like that... interesting, because all
4 of my dogs think they are the boss (3 females 1 male) .. well, I'll say the females think they are the alphas, the male on the other hand doesn't care he follows who ever has the food ;)

WOW! I'm sorry for Jake... to lose his person is not good, maybe that is why he was trying to dominate for a while? When his owner passed away, he knew that he was going to be staying and that he was the lower end of the pack?
