I used to run ESET, but NOD32 disabled my Synchronet setup. Kaspersky is not that bad.
But anyone have any alternatives that eat less memory or do not cost that much?

I'm trying out Avast. I usually use AVG, but was looking for something a
bit smaller. So far, so good - although I get more false positives with
    Avast.

Both Avast and AVG are free. Avast is telling me it's license is only good until 9/2011, we'll see what happens then.

    Hi Kurt,

If I remember correctly, Avast is free, but you have to register it each year with a working email address.

that's easy... you send in another free registration request and get a free license sent to your email to put into avast... i've been using avast for years
and do this once a year for each of the machines it is protecting...

as for FPs, i only get them in the security lists i participate in when we are exchanging signature data that avast has (stupidly??) decided to blanket cover no matter where it shows up instead of restricting the detection to only the places where is can/does show up... in those instances, i just tell avast to ignore it and report it as a FP to avast and carry on...

i have NEVER been able to get AVG to install and work on any machines, period... this since AVG first appeared on the market... no, i've not fought it
nor have i gone seeking answers... i install it, reboot and if there's a problem, attempt to install it once more... no go? remove it, clean up its crap
and move on to something else that does work... no big deal :)

Avast probably will want you to subscribe to continue receiving definition updates. I have the U3 version on one of my flash drives, and it recently started complaining that my license was expired and asking me to renew it for continued protection.
