• Echo Rules, Nov 10 2009

From KURT WISMER@1:123/140 to ALL on Tue Nov 10 00:41:00 2009
    ForeWord:
    =========

I EXPECT to have very little, or (preferably) NO work to do.
    I'd rather be the "UN-Moderator" of a largely self-moderating
echo. I don't want to "wave a stick" around.

I firmly believe that *self* discipline is preferable to imposed discipline.

That said, here are the rules.

RULES OF THE DIRTY DOZEN ECHO (revised 31-Mar-97) =============================
(From a copy dated 19-3-95 - by Tom Sirianni)

This echo, "DIRTY_DOZEN", is an outlet echo for early warnings
of TROJAN/BOMB/VIRUS programs, and warnings of pirated/hacked
    software of all kinds.

The name "DIRTY_DOZEN" is a follow-on from the first warnings
of program Trojans and Bombs. The list started out as a selected
dozen of the most destructive of these.

It is hoped that this echo will help the SysOps of BBSs and
PRIVILEGED Users be informed of problems, so they can be
better equipped to keep their BBSs safe, and consequently
    assist their users.

In-depth discussions on Viruses are discouraged. Instead, the
echoes VIRUS, & VIRUS_INFO can be used and are more appropriate.

Disagreements on Moderation are TO BE BY NETMAIL.

That said, here are the actual Rules ......

    ***********************************************************************

    1) DIRTY_DOZEN is a Fidonet echo available to FidoNet nodes throughout
the world. Points, Users, & Sysops, are allowed write access on the
provision that these rules are adhered to and a valid Fidonet origin
line is used in all messages posted in this Conference.

    2) The attitude displayed by echo users will be of an adult and
    mature manner.
Name bashing or assaultive comments will not be tolerated !!!!

    3) BBS and software product advertisment's are prohibited except by
    prior Moderator permission.

    4) Use of real & proper User names is required. Short signoff's are
encouraged. Multi-line large signoff's will not be permitted.
    One tagline only per message.

    5) Commercial advertising is ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED.
WARNING ! My definition of commercial is very broad.
No warning will be given before a feed cut will be issued.

    6) Messages *supporting* the dissemination of Trojans, Bombs
Viruses etc - ARE SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED.
Posting Trojan/Bomb/Virus source code is by PRIOR Moderator
    permission only.
    This echo is *ANTI* Trojan/Bomb/Virus.
No warning will be given before a feed cut will be issued.

    7) Moderation discussions will generally be via NETMAIL.
The lack of obvious moderation does not indicate its absence !
    Leave moderating to the Moderators.

    8) Encoded, encrypted or otherwise non-plaintext messages are
NOT permitted without the Moderators specific permission.
PGP fingerprints are allowed. Short fingerprints preferred.

    9) Permission requests to the Moderator will be made in Netmail or the
    open Conference. Netmail preferred.

    10) The preferred language to be used is English.
Non English languages are permitted ONLY on the proviso that an
English translation is =also= provided within the same message.

    ***********************************************************************

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE RULES MAY RESULT IN THE SYSTEM
WHERE THE MESSAGE ORGINATED, NOT GETTING DIRTY_DOZEN !

    Moderator - DIRTY_DOZEN
