I was just wandering around FIDO NET and found a) Your name and b)a mere 31 messages. So I start with #1. Cordial. Interesting. #2 Political question.
I say to myself oh. oh.
Now i'm on # 3 and wonder if this is to be the last...as you seem not too cordial to those with differing theology(s)...which is your (God-given)
right.
Lessee...
Hopefully you will get soem action. This echo has been dead for a
while.
IF you are following Politics in the USA what do you think of our
NEW
President??
Hmm. This was a year ago.
Hello Tom, thanks for your reply. I suppose it going to take a bit of
trial
and error on my part to figure out which echoes are still active, (and
worthy
of my attention), and which aren't.
I believe you were aware of HOLYSMOKE...a few others...:-)
Concerning Obama, let me state clearly that being as I come from a conservative Christian background, I am not an Obama fan.
I am a non-Catholic who was for Kennedy, I am not an atheist, I voted for Eisenhower...
But ok. You get to set your own benchmarks. My enthusiasm for Obama has dimmed...but not much.
I realized that he
spelled trouble for conservative Christian values even before he was
elected.
From historical as well as theological perspectives 'values' is difficult
to define, Christian values are disputed, and 'conservative Christian Values'...have a thousand differing variants...I am very fond of my C.I Scofield Bible...
More to the point, here are some of the issues that I have with him:
01. He supports Roe v. Wade.
So do I.
02. He voted against prohibiting minors from crossing state
lines in order to obtain an abortion.
If abortions are necessary/allowed/legal why be stopped at a state border?
A pregnant woman ain't no diseased orange :-)
03. He voted against notifying parents of minor children who
obtain out-of-state abortions.
Wow. I'll pass.
04. He voted in favor of expanding research to include more
embryonic stem cell lines.
Good! Advancing science.
05. He is undecided on whether or not life begins at
conception.
Only those who follow Catholic Doctrine are decided. I personally believe
that HUMAN life begins at around one and a half...with the beginnings of language. Prior to that, we are proto-human instinctive life-forms.
06. He voted against banning partial-birth abortions.
I'll leave that up to doctors and their patient564
07. He stated that we should trust women to make their own
decisions regarding partial-birth abortion.
"trust women" ? Rather than who? You?
08. He is opposed to a constitutional ban on gay and lesbian
"marriage".
So am I. It won't stop or hinder them of course. Making them illegal merely restricts common protections.
(Yep. I'm sensing it. 'This is the first and only post.'
You get those 'vibes'? :-)
09. He believes that homosexual relationships are no more
immoral than heterosexual relationships.
They have existed since the Dawn of Man. Mother Nature's Way -- of
bringing us the music of Tchaikovsky the art of Michelangelo, etc, etc, I
doubt it, but it's possible.
10. On one occasion, in reference to gay and lesbian
marriages, he stated ". . . nor am I willing to accept a
reading of the Bible that considers an obscure line in Romans
to be more defining of Christianity than the Sermon on the
Mount".
Good! Bravo! What on earth have you to object to this?
Any why do you repeatedly bring this up? Why are you so wildly interested
in the sex lives of others?
11. He opposes gay marriage, but supports civil unions and
gay rights.
Sounds like a good compromise, until a untamability of opinion is reached, (which is doubtful any time soon)
12. On one occasion, he remarked that he does not believe
that being homosexual is a curse, and also stated "I do not
believe being gay or lesbian is a choice".
Nor do I, nor does the scientific community.
