Is anyone here using the Hercules mainframe emulator?
I ran it for a while. The machine it was on got replaced and I have yet to
add it back.
Sean has mentioned mainframes and software such as REXX so I was wondering ifthere are other mainframe enthusiasts also using Hercules. Or it's your day job!
It was my day job and may soon be again soon. I spent ~27 years in the
land of COBOL and JCL. I enjoyed most of it.
Sadly not mine, but it's pretty amazing to run MVS, an O/S that used to requir
a room full of water-cooled hardware, on a small server box at home.
I thought it was neat to set it up, too but, as it was so much different
than what I used at work (OS-390, IIRC) I really never could get the hang
of what to do with it. That is probably why I never reinstalled it.
Brings me back to my days as a console operator/tape ape/printer jockey in the
1980s.
I was never an operator on a mainframe, but I did a couple of years
performing operations on a Baby/36 and an AS/400.
