    Hello There,

There is an existing cat in the household. She is a elderly female cat about 15
years old. It was decided that a second cat (Kitten) should be acquired. The kitten is a female about 9 weeks old. It was hoped that the older cat would welcome the new addition to that feline household. While the older cat doesn't openly attack the kitten it does have very little patience with the kitten. And
INSISTS that the kitten respects her personal space which seems to be about 8 inches. But the kitten (Being a kitten) has a hard time doing that.

It should be noted that the older cat doesn't have any front claws. Which limits the damage when she decides to give the kitten a slap upside the head. It is hoped that in time the older cat gets to be friends with the kitten or at
least tolerates/ignores the kitten. But I imagine only time will tell.

The kitten also seems to have a appetite for trying to eat toes. <g> She has confirmed the existence of her claws and her teeth on numerous occasions. For me it hasn't been as much an issue as I have limited feeling in my legs and feet. The scratches show up but I just don't feel them.

Kittens are so great :) Did you pick a name for her yet? What color is she?

    Take care,

I think that's just a time issue as well. They will get used to each other (hopefully)

    Hello All.

Some of you may recall that my little buddy died late last year... Still miss him VERY much. He was a unique cat.

Well albeit she's not a replacement for my last cat, I've got a new one now (about a month ago actually.) She's a young (1.5yr) old Sphynx and she now owns the apartment. I'll be sub-leasing from her. <bg>

She's my little (7 lb - 3kg) hairless wonder - as rambunctious and playful - and mischievous as you please. Her breeder told me that the Sphynx is a bit puppy-like in that it loves to hang around you and be affectionate. She's proving that daily. She's filling quite a void.

    Best regards,
    Marc

A new kitty is never a replacement for the "old" kitty. They're just a
new chapter in your life. :) Glad to hear she's helping you heal from
    your loss.

Agreed. When my 16 year old cat passed away in my lap some months
ago. After a time of grieving I decided to get another cat. I
realized that a new cat can not really replace a former kitty.
Each cat has there own personality and each cat builds a slightly
    different bond over time.

Thanks very much, Sean. She's sitting on my lap as I type this, supervising. :-)

Sorry for your loss, Jeff. I'm glad you decided on a "new" cat. You're correct; the new one is substantially different and not a replacement. Mine is developing into quite a new and uniquely different friend that I'll treasure for years to come. I hope you'll find the same with yours.

    Best regards,
    Marc
