  • Bipolar??

    Hello There,

    Can cats be bipolar? A friend has a adult female black cat that one second can
    growl and hiss if one so much as looks at it wrong let alone try to touch it. Then 10-30 seconds later it wants to be petted and scratched. With this cat one
    can't depend on any particular attitude.

    That sounds like our female, Lola.. she and her sister Lulu live here, but they
    each have two completely different temperments. Lulu is always sweet, friendly and affectionate. Lola is like your friends' black cat, one second she's wrapping herself around your legs affectionately, the next she's biting, or trying to at least... (once she jumped up from the groud and bit my calf! that frigging hurt!) Not so much growling, though. I've read that you should check your cat for any problems if that 'mean attitude' continues, but you know.... I
    am NOT going to be the one to try to get that fuzbucket in a cat carrier Lol

    I know I'll have to eventually though, she's due for shots this spring :(

    If color has anything to do with it, Lola is typical calico, and Lulu is a more
    money-colored calico... no black kitties right now :)

    My girlfriend is a Vet and she does a lot of pet rescue. Mom has a calico rescue kitty that's really sweet to mom, but she has more personalities than Cybil when other people try to pet her.

    Izzie (mom's kitty) is nice one minute... screaming hissing demon the next... rubbing your leg for attention the next then biting you when you try to pet her.

    Lelani seems to think that Calicos personalities are as mixed up as the colors and patterns on their fur.

    Sounds like a demon cat for sure Lol Lola seems ok lately.. not to frantic to attack at least these last few weeks. It could be all the catnip I've been leaving around, since I've trying some
    'mood-alteration' haha

    The trick though is to put in places the DOGS don't find it.. they eat the catnip as soon as they find it.. jerk dogs!

    There is a spray version of catnip made by "Smarty Cat" that you can spray on their toys. Same effect... but no kitty weed spread around things.

    There's also a manistream cat treat (they advertise them on tv but I can't remember the brand) that comes in a green bag or container and it has catnip in them. They have to eat a lot to get the "high" effect though.

    Catnip can make some kitties aggressive though.
