  • Lots of mechanical stuff lately.

    Here is an update on various projects that I have completed on family vehicles recently.

    2002 Monte Carlo: Replaced fuel pump, blower motor resistor, complete brake job with Centric rotors and Akebono pads - including new calipers which I painted, new CV-half shafts (axles), new transmission cooler lines, new Michelin Defender tires, and recently just had to repair a wire harness issue which was causing the transmission to not function (stuck in 3rd gear) and throwing a code.

    Ended up being one wire that had rubbed through next to the A/C condensor. It was not an easy job, but had to solder a new area of wire, then tape it all up and reinforce with some wire harness sleeving. That repair saved a fortune, as
    at first the problem seemed to be the transmission - except it threw (3) trans codes at the same time. All (3) were on the same circuit on the harness.

    2001 Durango: New power steering pump with cooler, had to replace the trailer wiring harness due to a short in the box, new window regulator and master control on the driver's side door.

    I also helped my step-son replace a transmission range sensor switch on his Honda yesterday.

    Had lots of fun this summer!

    Many of times i have repaired burned wires inside a harness. A lot easier and cheaper than replacing the whole harness. I hear todays cars computer technology runs on two wires on whats called a buss. Cars today are made to
    be serviced by the stealership where the electronics can talk with the manafacturer. No thanks!

    My old 1988 LeBaron premium coupe still runs like a dream with it's mostly original components including the turbo charger. Passenger side window went down last week and didnt come back up. Removing the door panel and tapping the motor with a small hammer got it back up, so im thinking the brushes are shot. Googling found rebuilt motors for under $60. And that regulator had gears and replaceable motors. Never find that today.

    Some years of Jeep Liberty's had a single unit (bycicle cables and motor) that came only with the window glass!
