I started using Argus in the early noughties and loved it. There weren't any updates to it directly.

However, the source code was taken up by a 'maintainer' team of Denis Voituk (Russian) and Alex Shakhaylo (Ukrainian), who called the new effort "Radius". Radius is a drop-in replacement for an Argus installation, though there might be some additional settings required to be configured in its setup. Radius contains many fixes & enhancements over the basic Argus.

Alex went a little overboard with some of his 'steak knife' extras coded into later versions, so Denis asked him to fork the development of those extras. This further development became known as a thing called "Taurus".

Since then, a feller named Frans Lupschen has done 'some work' on the Argus & Radius sources in late 2013 on a project called "Trapgate". I don't know what changes he may have made as I haven't run any versions of his. Nothing has turned up in the Trapgate echo over here and I haven't checked his website since December, so, I don't know what's going on with it (other than I think he

was de-constructing some GUI aspects, unnecessarily).

I sincerely hope that I haven't told you things that you already knew of. :|

I'm running Radius from the latest (I think) version issued in January 2005, since then. It's a magnificent improvement on Argus. OTOH, I have noticed that some very recent versions of BinkD barf on first-time connects.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Interesting, I've downloaded Trapgate and have been playing around with it a bit. I've got to admit that I'm a complete novice when it comes to these mailers as I have been using Irex for years. Many years ago I had a multiple dialup line using FrontDoor but this stuff to me is completely different. :)

No doubt it is a different science entirely from running FrontDoor, or Irex. I

know the feeling: I started in early '94 with FrontDoor, alternately using the commercial & non-commercial versions. Fortunately, the whole configuration (including a RemoteAccess BBS) blew itself away in the 'big bang' of November '98.

During reconstruction, I commenced using BinkleyTerm (and a Mystic BBS, later).

Binkley gave me the edge I needed to work on a binkD arrangement as well; since all of my Fidonet links were LD, it made sense to explore an IP method of

exchanging mail & files. So, there was a time when I was running both Bink & binkD. Then I discovered Argus, and later Radius: the best ever mailer arrangment of its time.

Pray, tell us more of this Trapgate thing. :)

    Cheers,
    Paul.
