• Anyone using TRAPGATE?

From Kurt Weiske@1:218/700 to All on Mon Dec 16 12:38:27 2013

Trapgate looks like another Argus/Radius/Targus clone, but is new - is anyone using it?

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/trapgate/reviews/

According to the web site the guts have been changed but the UI stayed the same.

    I don't see a changelog, however.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've grabbed a couple of archives, and pulled them apart to read the dox. That's it so far.

There's nothing really in the dox either. I've written a netmail to the maintainer, inviting him to join us here (or any other support echo he may suggest), so, I'm playing a waiting game now till I can question him. :)

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Maybe we should start an ARGRADTAUTRAP echo?

I now realise that you're some sort of extrem'ophile. :)

There has always been an Argus echo, and I don't understand why anyone maintaining an Argus-derivative doesn't/won't use the echo. (The experiment with the Taurus fork _echo_ was actually unnecessary, IMO.) This is still Fidonet, isn't it.[rhetorical]

    Cheers,
    Paul.

I posted about this a while back; I thought what might benefit users of one of the variants might benefit 'em all.

Has anyone compiled a list of features bugfixes in each version? I've dabbled with them all and hate to say it, but I'm running Radius primarily because I like the system tray icon. :)

There has always been an Argus echo,

Some of us have postings dating back to 2000-07-17 here, and I guess it started even before that (I only joined after I got it installed).

Yes indeed, that sounds almost as "always" in fido terms.

I agree with you Paul, one Argus echo should be enough for all derivatives.

    Same here but much later.

BTW. I'm hoping there wasn't too much damage from my 'test' this morning?

    Cheers,

Absolutely not. The strange thing is that I found this in the log:

    ---------- Thu 11 Aug 2011, WinFreq 1.00.05ß; Task= ------------------

    I wonder how that went.

Well, to get on topic here, what FReq programs do y'all use for the Argus family? Any suggestions are welcome.

Yikes! My evil doings in the past have come back to haunt me! Just checking... it wasn't a pretty sight...

Many errors similar to this (last entry)...
11-Aug-2011 22:00:26 Disconnect reason is fatal error
    * 11-Aug-2011 22:00:26 Session aborted

End of experiment. Oops. (A lot of that going around.)

See my netmail, and the BinkD echo.

Hehe. Well, Håkan Andersson (1951-2003), author of WinFreq, rest in peace wherever you are, you were a great guy and did many good things here in Swedish
Fidonet, but WinFreq obviously wasn't one of your best products.

See my netmail, and the BinkD echo.

    Thanks, mate!

My guess is that you have to know Russian to be able to keep up with all the
    recent development.

As long as we don't even allow them to post messages with their own Cyrillic
character set in Fidonet, they'll give us the finger if we ask them. At least that what I have figured out...

Not that I'm aware of. Argus has its own History.txt file of changes. The last Radius archive I have here has a History.Eng list of changes (up to 4.010 [21-Jan-200], SR2). The single Taurus archive I have (an alpha, Feb '06) has no dox at all.

I've dabbled with them all and hate to say it, but I'm running Radius primarily because I like the system tray icon. :)

There you go. How extreme! (Kinda looks like the level exit button in Duke Nukem 3D, huh.)

I like Argus & Radius because it/they did both POTS & IP in a single package, running whatever nodes as required. It freed me from having to use both binkD & Binkley. Whoo!hoo!

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Apologies for the duplicate, guys. It seems to have been up-chucked from my glorious ZC's node, after fermenting there for a few days maybe. Or, was it Z1C? Mmmm. (Enough time for me to go into a flat panic IAC.)

There was apparently no hope for any dupe detection as a lot of peoples' systems rely on a properly-formed MSGID (mine particularly). Some others rely on a byte count & origin date/time (? IIRC) but this version of the message lacks even the TZUTC kludge in the other copy I have, and if we disregard the differing PATH & SEEN+BY lists as well... well, no chance of detection.

    Oh, well. So sorry.

    Cheers,
    Paul.
