Charles,
I got a reply from Epson to my question about the ftp.epson.com
entry I found in My Network Places.
Here it is:

Thank you for contacting Epson regarding your EPSON Stylus NX430.
Not too sure why ftp.epson.com would be listed on your Network
Places. This is a link to our company server, and is not part of
your printer's installation. This link only appears when a system
is trying to access our secure server. You should be able to remove
the link from your Network Places on your computer. For assistance
on removing the link, please visit the Microsoft website.
We take your satisfaction seriously and hope that we have helped
resolve your issue. If you receive a survey from us, we would
greatly appreciate if you could take a few minutes to provide us
with feedback about your support experience. Your ratings and
comments are extremely important to us.
If this did not resolve your issue, please reply to this email for
further assistance. If you have a different support issue, submit a request via our U.S. or Canada Support Site and we will respond in
a timely manner.
Thank you again for contacting Epson.

I looked a bit in XP Help & Support but couldn't find anything
there so I went ahead and deleted ftp.epson.com and it and all it sub-entries were removed.
When I was searching for answers about the ftp entry by looking in
the Users Guide for the NX430 I noticed the Guide was on their
Server instead of my hard drive, so I asked them about it.
I'd rather have my NX430 Users Guide on my computer just like the
CX3810 Users Guide already is, so I can read it when I want without
being on the internet to read it.

In other words, they didn't offer you much beyond informing you that you woul
be receiving a survey from them?

Roger,
That's right!
And about the Users Guide (UG), someone in the Win95 echo suggested
I go to Epson's site and download it, so I did.
I clicked on the Manual link, right-clicked on the UG, selected
Save Link As to put it on my system.
After Scanning the index.html file, I ran it and got a message
saying it couldn't find the C:\<my directory>\Content file.
I looked inside the index.html file to see that all I got was just
a file to look at the UG on Their Server. DUH!
there. I think their users guide is only available online, so I
checked and found this:
http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/nx430_/nx430_ug/index.html
which is no doubt what you found and probably the source of your frustration, even though it works. Screen capturing every one of
those pages is going to take a lot of time, so you might ask them
if they can make it available.

Man, I don't like that seller-user "support", although I have run across it RN>myself.

That figures. But I have to ask if it's possible the manual is on the CD the
printer came with? No, you would have already looked there. I think their RN>users guide is only available online, so I checked and found this:

i wouldn't be screen grabbing... that's too much work... however, diligent ML>snooping under the sheets shows that they are using a frames format for that ML>help file... viewing the frame source for the left hand TOC frame turns up al
manner of links that all seem to start with "source/"... playing, i've found ML>that replacing "index.html" in your above link with the link in the page ML>sources turns on the actual page content... but this is still a lot of work ML>unless, perhaps, wget or a custom screen scraper can grab it all and format i
for local viewing... but there's still going to be a lot of work...
FWIW: i note on the initial page that there is a reference to CHM which is on
of the windoes help file formats... it would not surprise me at all to find ML>that they are either breaking the info out of an existing CHM in the backgrou
or they have already done so and are using HTML to present it... it is also ML>possible that the site is working from the original sources of the CHM file..
the question now is if the CHM file can be found or made available for those ML>systems that are not conntected to the 'net... i think that is the specific ML>question that needs to be put to epson ;)

I had a reply the other day from Tom Walker in the WIN95 echo about
this, so I went to Epsons NX430 UG page and Saved the Index.HTML
file and then I Saved it again as Index2.HTML.
This time I noticed there was a Index Directory and a Index2
Directory made.
I ran the Index.HTML file with the results being the same as before
- it couldn't find some file it needed.
I told Tom I'll look at the files in the Index directory and see if
I could figure out what 'it' needed changing to make it work, that
is IF I COULD FIGURE IT OUT, and I'd get back to him what I'd found
out.
DUH!, I forgot all about saying that yesterday and now it's late
here and I don't expect to get to doing it until after Monday.
I guess I'll have to write a(nother) ROUNDTUIT note and put it on
the keyboard so I can see it, to remind me to do that.
I'll post my reply here too, Roger.

I only spot checked them and the ones I clicked on were good. Maybe I didn't
click on the same one you did.

only told me it was missing the C:\<directory name>\Content file it TW>EV>TW>EV>looking for.
I have had that hapen to me also. When yopu do a save as for a HTML pag
it is saved as two parts. One is the page you see on the screen TW>EV>TW>instructions and the other one is the actual data, pictures etc. TW>EV>TW>If the instructions cannot find the data you get that warning.
Tom,
You made me remember that I have .HTM(L) files that I have saved from TW>EV>the internet that made a file AND a directory.
I just Saved two new copies of the INDEX.HTML file, INDEX.HTML and TW>EV>INDEX2.HTML.
I clicked on the INDEX.HTML file and got a error message that it TW>EV>couldn't find what it wanted to find again.
This time I will study the inners of the file and diretory to see if I TW>EV>can do some editing to make the file and directory talk to each other.
From what I know the File and the Directory names must match.
I only spot checked them and the ones I clicked on were good.
Maybe I didn't click on the same one you did.
Roger, I looked at the URL in your other message and it is the same
URL I had went to for the NX430 Users Guide.
