I have recently installed dos71 on a rebuilt machine, and I am not
able to get dos to recognize long filenames. It still wants to use

The Dos specification has only supported 8.3 filenames ie
FAT and not FAT32. The only way around this is installing
Dos via Win 98 SE into a floppy which does so but by memory
has a very limited of supplied utilities.
It is possible that one or more of the free versions of Dos

not to mention that even with LFN at the DOS level, many
DOS programs are still limited by the 8.3 convention...
