• ALLFIX dupes?

From Nicholas Boel@1:154/701 to All on Sat Jun 13 08:06:48 2015
    Hello All,

I've been noticing that anything posted by ALLFIX ends up in my DUPE bin. Could
this be because ALLFIX is not appending a MSGID to it's messages?

    Regards,
    Nick

Allfix appends MSGID if you create new file reports as .PKT in your tosser local inbound. If you create reports directly to JAM base it wont append MSGID.

Thanks for the heads up, Tommi. I don't personally use it here, I'm just making
a statement based on all the Allfix created messages that arrive here without a
    msgid from multiple systems.

It's not really worth tracking down 10 or so people to let them know this, but I was just making sure where the root cause was.

    Nick

Messages shouldn't be treated as dupes when there is no MSGID. :)

I see you are using HPT. Just like me in this system, but I do not see Allfix messages going to dupe board. Strange.

Does HPT default to dupechecking by MsgID and some kind of hash check? I don't have anything specific specified, so it's using the default (which I thought was MsgIDwithHashCheck or something in those lines - I didn't look it up so I'm
probably on the right track but it's probably the wrong config option). Then in
    my area definitions, I use:

-dupecheck move -dupehistory 365 -tooold 365 -sbkeepall

Is there something I may be missing?

which version of allfix? my 5.13.4 has MSGIDs and the only dupes i get are from
systems feeding from me that are misconfigured and spewing some areas back to me...

hunh? my 5.13.4 puts MSGID in the jam bases when it posts to them... /all/ software used here (main system) posts to echomail or netmail areas directly...
never to pkts to be tossed...

Offhand, and not taking the time to look back on said messages, I do remember seeing version 6+ of Allfix in the kludge lines. If I see anything different, I'll make sure to retract my statement.

    [time to check passes]

It looks like everything is coming from Allfix 6.00.18 or 6.0.24 or whatever those versions are. As I checked they were all over version 6.0, but now that I'm posting I forgot the exact numbering. Either way, none of them seem to be version 5.

This may not be related to hpt at all. I actually think it's now an
issue with my hub (which is Synchronet, not hpt), which may only be checking for MSGID. So if they're not present, it will pass any dupes on to my Golded+/hpt system where they are found by hpt.

I believe hpt is working as it should. I'm just receiving multiple of
the same message because Synchronet is passing them through and not catching them as dupes because there's no MSGID.

While it may be a bug that Allfix is not creating messages with a MSGID (which would probably pass through any tosser only utilizing MSGID dupe checking), it's also most likely a bug in Synchronet's tosser that is
not catching them as dupes and sending them on anyways because of that missing MSGID.

This may in fact give me more motivation to reverse these two systems I have running here, making hpt/binkd my hub system and Synchronet just an end point node.

Right. So your dupes are real dupes? ;)

i don't have that one but i understand that there's a new owner of
the code and a new developer of the code... i've thought that all the
v6 stuff came from them and not harald... now that i think about it,
i didn't move to the v6 stuff because there was an additional fee i think... what i have works great for my setup so... ;)

"If it works, don't fix it" :)

I tried to upgrade from 6.00.18 few times, but no success. Maybe a
complete new setup might work, but "If it works, don't fix it" :)

That's right! Apparently a bug in Allfix. When it posts to squish base,
it will create the MSGID ok.

my 5.13.4 puts MSGID in the jam bases when it posts to them...

And I'm talking about the last original Allfix, 6.00.18 from Harald. ;D

After I acquired ownership of AllFix, one of the first things I did was arrange that all restrictions forced on users due to non-registration (and/or payment) be removed. At this time there is no nagging to register, no delays or slowdowns due to non-registration in place. I will NOT release the source code nor will I not copyright it.
