    Too late. <G>

    It's never too late.

    Remember the context? <silly G>

Fido doesn't seem to attract as many malcontents these days, don't you find?

There are a few malcontents still hanging in there.

But the new ones find a path of less resistance through the I-net. The fido hang-ons tend to turn into sysops. <L>

The parallel with "A conversation over a fence with a neighbour," is one ...
down my language to "A conversation I have over a fence with a
    neighbour's JB> kid."

I try to set an example with the quality of my language
wherever I am. It's sort of like telling the truth all the
time. That way, you don't have the burden of remembering
    who you lied to.

Discovering early that I make a horrible liar, I knew a career in the legal profession was not likely in my future. Curiously, my language is the most "colourful" around a couple of neighbours that can't seem to keep their stories straight. (I suspect they can't keep "straight" in their life either, but that's another story. ;-) I always try to keep it on a cajoling note but in that, I wish they would take more hints from the humour. I have one cued up for a serious talk, but he doesn't seem to be around for the lashing. Either he knows it's coming, or he knows he deserves it. Either way; and as the kids say, It's all good. <EG>

They must put it in a closet and just forget about it.

I started my BBS back in 1988, I always found mail tossing was like magic, still do. I made a lot of good friends through fidonet, but that was then,
now is now. I run my board just for a hobby now. I call it my retro hobby.

The parallel with "A conversation over a fence with a neighbour," is one
    I
adhere to in any echo, (There's more appropriate places for all three of your

I archive all echoes I moderate, so it's easy to look it up. I don't think this case warrants it.

There are a few malcontents still hanging in there.

They are electric? (-: Not too many left in Fidonet who aren't SysOps.

I'm pretty much the same and don't waste time on nonsensical things. My goal in life is to make at least one person laugh per day.

(But that's not the topic of this echo. Sorry mod.)

Don't give it a second thought. What follows are my three

    Too late. <G>

unwritten rules for any echo I moderate:

    1. No discussion about politics
    2. No discussion about religion
    3. No bad language or personal attacks.

I am flexible on all but the last one.

You know, I guess I am one of the few who is not a sysop. Though I continually dream of becoming one.

And then you'll wonder why you did.

Honestly I don't know how sysops do it these days. Might leave a BBS up and have someone call once a week maybe? They must put it in a closet
    and just forget about it.

Some places get an enormous amount of traffic, but the majority of what I see coming here is done by robots advertising BBSes and file releases, etc. Mine used to be very busy 25 years ago when users were prone to writing messages and
they knew I would keep them safe from written harm. You can tell people to not
be easily offended, but many of the writers are from differing backgrounds, which can be confusing without the proper command of the English language. Whenever I'm in doubt about what someone writes, I ask for an explanation just so I can understand. Many times people forget that some foreign users, while quite adept at the English language, it is still not their first language. Using an online translator can be dangerous. (-:
