    So I'm wondering how I can share messages between curten bbs's with out
    going over fidonet? Lets say I have a classifyeds message base on my
    board and I want to share that message base with my friends board but
    not with the rest of the fidonet? I guess what I'm trying to say is
    there a way to share message bases between a select number of boards
    that you want.

    Yes, just create an area tag for the area and connect the nodes you want connected and away you go.

    If you want them completely isolated from fidonet use another zone.

    I think the first option will work for you.

    You could setup your own FTN network -- many have, and that is what Othernets are based off of.

    Another alternative would be to setup a QWK network if your BBS software supports that. Far easier than setting up a FTN network in many respects.

    Yes, just set yourself up an Othernet. Pick a zone number that's not used (I suggest between 2000 and 4095), and assign node numbers for each BBS. You shouldn't need a nodelist, simply hardcode each entry into the mailers of each BBS and set them up to poll each other. And being a close knit local net, you can make all traffic Crash.

    It is, if the BBS software supports it on all nodes, but OTOH, once the FTN infrastructure is setup, it's relatively straightforward to add another FTN to the BBSs.

    Or as has been pointed out, there's no reason Fidonet addresses can't be used to distribute a limited distribution echo. Might want to take measures to stop other downlinks from areafixing it, if you have any that won't be a part of it.

    I don't have the time to go into too much specifics, but in short:

    First, you'd go into Echomail Addresses and add another address in your new zone.

    Then you'd want to setup your links, which is done in Echomail Nodes.

    And finally, your message areas, make sure the ones you want to share between your closed network are of type Echomail and the address settings are right.

    That's the short version. If I had more time, I'd get the details from the configuration menus (I use Mystic on my FTN hub, so I'm familiar with it).
