Twenty-four years ago I was coming off another self-imposed crisis and
decided to do things the AA way. I got a sponsor as a guide, a book as a map and joined a group of fellow travellers.

I recovered from alcoholism by doing the Steps the AA way as laid out in the book. Along the way I had the opportuunity to sponsor people and my life got better and better.

At about 5 years I returned to the Church of my childhood and developed a prayer life.

Today I don't have a single problem and I've become an expert at doing nothing. Life could not be better.

Congrats Jim..... Keep those pedals turning!
We have tried taking small salty pretzels with our sugary Gu's and it
seems to help a little. My problem is taking the time to get them down
with a mouth dry from running and then drink. But since I am running
so slow now in my old age I have decided it's better to be slower than nauseated. :-)

Just the way it happened for me Jim, except for the church part.

The only problem I had was my overestimation of my intelligence.

I found out in short order the collective "them" was a hellof a lot
    smarter than "I".

Congrats & may you have many more.

They stop, look back directly at me and then decide to cross the road to the shady side as I'm bearing down on them. I could not go around them and I didn't want to lock up the brakes b/c that usually ends up with me on the ground. I bunny hopped the curb at 15kph without blowing a tire.

I ride at night and most joggers don't wear reflective gear and they all

Sorry. I'm quite aware of my current health problems with my ticker (I
need to get a tooth pulled this afternoon too, and they don't know why
it got infected) and I know that working the AA program even harder than
I did (remember that I used to boast about how many times I took a

seem that most everything is now under control, although I do have that nagging diagnoses of pulmonary hypertension to deal with, so maybe if
you ask me the question in a few months I'll feel differently.
Tomorrow is my last session of cardiac rehab so that is definitely a milestone.

Sorry. I'm quite aware of my current health problems with my ticker (I
need to get a tooth pulled this afternoon too, and they don't know why
it got infected) and I know that working the AA program even harder than
I did (remember that I used to boast about how many times I took a
4th/5th step?) wouldn't have made an iota of difference. Now it does
seem that most everything is now under control, although I do have that >nagging diagnoses of pulmonary hypertension to deal with, so maybe if
you ask me the question in a few months I'll feel differently.
Tomorrow is my last session of cardiac rehab so that is definitely a >milestone.

Jesus, Being old and falling apart doesn't make one unique ... just
makes ya one of the boys. Hell in a few months you might not remember
how you felt a few months ago.

If you were a smoker ... than you'd know why your tooth got infected.
Last time I had a twisted ankle ... the Doc started with ... well if
    you didn't smoke!

a guide, a book as a map and joined a group of fellow
    travellers.

I recovered from alcoholism by doing the Steps the AA way as
laid out in the book. Along the way I had the opportuunity to
sponsor people and my life got better and better.

At about 5 years I returned to the Church of my childhood and
    developed a prayer life.

Today I don't have a single problem and I've become an expert
at doing nothing. Life could not be better.

Congrats Jim..... Keep those pedals turning!

    Same from me!

We have tried taking small salty pretzels with our sugary Gu's
and it seems to help a little. My problem is taking the time to
get them down with a mouth dry from running and then drink. But
since I am running so slow now in my old age I have decided it's
better to be slower than nauseated. :-)

I completely understand. Puking isn't a favorite activity.

Easy for YOU to say that, what with all that almost free Bilstein
tail you are getting. Noon is still early--I have to get up by
noon on Saturday and I don't know HOW I am going to do it. Mrs.
Sharx' family is having a function, out in the boonies. I usually
DO get up by 3 p.m., hitting the sack by 6 or 7 a.m.. Shank of the
evening, I say. During tax season, I NEVER schedule client
appointments before 2 p.m., if I can absolutely help it. I am, most
    assuredly, NOT a morning person.

I have no choice. One of the chemo drugs I took 2 years ago has left me sensitive to intense heat. I usually get up at 6 am so it is no big deal for me to be on the bike by 7 or 8 am. in July and August. Once it cools off a
bit I'll be able to do very long all day rides.

Keep you eye out for bike swap meets. Clubs put them on and I think REI may also have them. Good deals can be had.

We have 2 a year here and I rent a table for 20$ and can sell off all the stuff I'm not using.

Did the Azusa Canyon bike trail this A.M. with my pal Jim and the new
Schwinn Jet Star Comfort bike I picked up (at a yard sale). When I
Googled the bike after I bought it I came across a couple of complaints
that the tall gear wasn't tall enough. I agree. My other bike will
come down out of the canyon at least 30% faster. Other than that the
bike is sweet to ride. In case anyone is curious about what kind of
bike I'm talking about I'll link it. Paid $90.00 for it.

I can understand. I've found, as the years pass by, that I am more
sensitive to both extremes of heat AND cold. Hell, right now, it's
about 22 Celsius and 55% relative humidity in Sharx Manor and I
feel uncomfortable enough to want to turn on the A/C. However,
since others differ, I will have to compromise with a walk through
beautiful southwest Edmonton. A cancer-survivor friend of mine,
post radiation some years back, absolutely dreads temps above 20
    Celsius.

It is a mountain bike designed for off road. The "tall gears" are chain
rings and the rear gears are cassette gears. Both can be changed but if you
go bigger you will need to change the chain. An increase of 1 tooth in the front is equal to 5 in the rear.
