Things have been pretty quiet. I'm just wondering what types of things folks
are up to with their Amiga.
Speaking for myself, I'm waiting on a new hard drive due to a drive failure. I
spotted a good deal so I'm switching over to an SSD since I didn't see
the
point of paying more for a mechanical.
Before the drive failure I was spending more time on the BBSes than I have in
quiet a while. I also started playing Qix again and realizing that when you
don't play a game for a long time you really forget what you were doing. ;)
Please let me know what you're up to.
Well since I really don't have a real Amiga but Emulated, I have been setting up different Amiga's on different AOS'.. I have every OS from
1.3 to 3.9 setup and can be used but I am more modifying my 3.9 version with some different things, I have been perusing Aminet for different things, I now have a loading screen with bar graph showing how much has been loaded I am working on getting a few of my old Telecom disks made
into adf's so I can install JR-Comm and Terminus Registered versions so
I can call out with them. Also re-teaching myself how to use the Amiga
OS and the settings of it. That is all in addition to what I am doing on
my C64's! Jeez..
Well the replacement drive was a no go. I think it was a bit too new
for my system and I couldn't even get the machine to recognize it. I've found another drive that is recognized but I've run into some formatting issues. Hopefully I can get those sorted and be operational again soon.
I've never messed with emulation much, but if I can't figure out this drive situation I may have to learn! ;)
There's an amazing amount of stuff out there if you look around a bit
and a lot of it is still very useful. It's amazing how some software holds up over the years.
Sorry to hear the drive didn't work out.. If you continue to have formatting issues, here's an idea if that drive will work in a PC,
install it on the PC then run up WinUAE, and use that to format it..
Then you can pull it out and toss it in the 'Mig and it should be fine..
A lot of folks use WinUAE to setup hard drives since you can emulate
much faster machines then say a 500 get the drive all set up then move
it to the real thing..
Emulation is pretty simple.. Install, pull up the machine you want to emulate from the list, then create your hard drives either directory
drives like I use (PC Folders) or hdf files that you can create. Pull up
a AOS install disk floppy, install and go.. Currently I have a "work" computer I set up which does my BBS maintenance (log copying, Commodore
BBS backups, etc) which has every AOS from 1.3 to 3.9. I haven't had the chance to rebuild my PPC emulation of 4.1.. I love it, one day I will
get another Amiga, but until then I will stick with Emulation..
I use on emulated Amiga for my BBS, and I have a laptop that is dedicated to my play Amiga. Mostly I use it to call boards. Been using
it also to create skypix headers for different areas on my BBS. I call
it my AmigaLaptop. I would really like to have the real deal, but
prices are way to high. I was able to grab me another C64. So I dabble with that a lot too.
What terminal program do you recommend for skypix? I've never been on a BBS
that supported skypix with an Amiga so I don't know if all the terminals support it or only certain ones.

What Amiga and how do you connect the SSD? I have a A1200 and I am
using a 8GB compact flash cart in an IDE adapter.
CU, Ricsi
... Spam cut into 1/2" slices and dried makes excellent roof shingles.
I have a SAM 440ep FLEX.
Unfortunately the SSD I picked up was not recognized by the SAM.
I don't have a classic so I can't offer any assistance. Hopefully
someone else will see the message and be able to offer some ideas.

I had to use wikipedia ... Now I learned something new :) The SAM
sounds really good!
